In my opinion, yes.

Well I guess it depends what your family's interests are.
If it was my family, I would do 4 nights in the Tofino / Ucluelet area on the west coast of Vancouver Island, with the remaining nights split evenly between Whistler and Vancouver.

if you or the kids are into mountain biking, glacier skiing or hiking then i would suggest going to whistler 2 days maximum. tourist area grossly overpriced. personally i would spend time in vancouver island. ferry from horseshoe bay to nanaimo and visit the towns on the coast road to victoria, chemainis, duncan etc. stunning and you get a great flavour of bc and from a first nation perspective

If you end up going to Whistler there is a vacation property called Horstman House which is great for families, we stay there all the time summer and winter with our 3 kids. They have full kitchens, in-suit laundry, pool, games room, short walk to lost lake and is infront of whistlers shuttle bus stop.
