Vancouver Hotel

Does anyone have a suggestion for a hotel for one night in Vancouver. Our flight arrives around 7 p.m. and we board a cruise for Alaska the next day around 12:30 p.m. We would like to be convenient to the cruise terminal and restaurants. We don't want to spend lots of money for just the one night but would like something decent and clean.

Could you give a budget? 'lots of money' can mean different things for different people. Nothing really close to the terminal will be cheap.

The closest are the Pan Pacific and the Fairmont Waterfront which are, respectively, in and accross the street from the cruise ship terminal.

Other ideas which are maybe 3- blocks away from the terminal - the Marriott Pinnacle, the Renaissance Harbourview, the Delta Suites - maybe the Days Inn for something cheaper.

Arriving YVR at 7pm? That means that by the time you fetch your bags and step out of Arrivals, it will be close to 8pm. I think you have two choices: stay in a hotel near the airport, or near the cruise ship terminal (by the way we have two of them).
If you prefer the idea of staying near the airport, try La Quinta Inn - it's an American chain and they just opened a new hotel in Richmond. Check www.laquinta.com. I stayed in one of their hotels in Portland this past summer and really liked it. And the rates are really reasonable.
However, if you don't mind paying a little (lot??) more, I highly recommend that you book a room in the Pan Pacific Hotel, which is directly on top of the main cruise ship terminal (assuming your ship leaves from there). It's a 5 star hotel, and if you can get up by 7 am the next day you can watch your ship park (dock?) underneath when it arrives. And you can dally a little in the area before you have to board (i.e. de-stress - it's your vacation).
One more thing - don't worry about trying to board at 12:30 pm. I tried that as well and ended up waiting in the waiting area for an hour. There is lots of time - you can board anytime before 4 pm.

Thanks for your responses. We are thinking of the Days Inn. It seems to be clean and good location and very reasonable.

Days Inn where - Vancouver downtown or Richmond (airport)? Be careful abot locations - although something may look convenient and clean on a website, it might be in a dicey area.

Excellent location and easy walking distance to the Cruise Ship Terminal Downtown.
If it's the other older Cruise Ship Terminal it's be less than 10 minutes away-about an $C8 cab ride.

I'm not sure what the Days Inn is quoting you, but you could likely get a much nicer 4 star downtown hotel on Priceline or Hotwire for between $50 and $75 US.

Another suggestion which I will make is a hotel that is a bit of a secret apparently - Terminal City Tower Hotel http://www.tctowerhotel.com/. It is one block from the terminal and is associated with a private club called Terminal City Club. A night in the hotel also gives you access to all the club features. Not sure when you're travelling but they have a bed and breakfast rate from Nov 1-March 30 of $169 Cdn. Even though you are only there for one night, sounds like a great way to kick off a trip!

Thanks again for the advice. I will check out the Tower Hotel and I will go on Travelaxe to see if I can get a better place for a good price. People seem to think the Days Inn is a good location. I too was worried that I might get into a seedy area.
