Toronto to Quebec through 1,000 Islands by Boat?

A friend asked me to find out for her if it's possible to travel from Toronto to Quebec City by boat through the St. Lawrence seaway and the 1000 islands.

So far in my investigation it seems like this is possible only if you own your own boat.

I wondered about hopping a laker for part of the way. I heard about this idea many years ago but don't know whether it still is possible or how it can be arranged.

Since there would be four people travelling together, my suggestion would for her to rent a car and drive to the Thousand Islands, take a boat tour there, then continue by car to Quebec City. There seem to be lots of different boat tours of the Thousand Islands available. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Any suggestions involving more boating and less driving would be appreciated.

I have vague recollections of an overnight cruise boat, and I'll make an enquiry. Might have Princess in the name, and hold perhaps 50 passengers.

It might have been Kingston to Montreal.

There's no way I know of to get from Toronto to Kingston by commercial boat.

According to my sources, and just cut and pasted from her note to me, "St Lawrence Cruise Lines ( www.stlawrencecruiselines.com) will get you to Quebec City in 6 nights, with many stops along the way."

This is based on starting in Kingston.

Thanks so much, BAK! I'll forward this information to my friend who is planning to visit Canada next June.
