Sunday Brunch in Ottawa

We're a group of 8 looking for an upscale Sunday brunch in Ottawa. Not a hotel brunch! Any suggestions with details appreciated.

I can't think of anything 'upscale' that is not in a hotel. I only know of the Chateau Laurier and I highly recommend it. You could try the NAC restaurant along the canal. Vittoria on Bank serves a good bkfst.

Thanks Outaouis, but we're already holding a big party at The Chateau on the Saturday so brunch there too is out. If you think of anything, please post. Thanks.

Gayle,

Hopefully you are still around to read this. Sorry, I havent been online for a bit so I am late getting this to you. Unfortunatley the NAC, or rather Le Cafe, is not open on Sundays, otherwise that would be a great choice, expecially for out of towners, restaurant on the Canal, etc.

So, for "upscale", Ottawa is a little short on choices for Brunch, but my best bet would be to say the Westin Hotel, Daly's. I know you specifically asked for NOT a hotel, so I'm not sure if this helps. But it is probalby the best of the lot here. Unfortunately I dont do brunch in this town, (my family insists I make the best darn brunch around , so I'm not much help. After all your recs for Toronto, I feel bad not being able to help you out. But again, Daly's is very good, they just redid their whole restaurant, always gets good brunch reviews, and is of course very close to the Chateau. Good luck.

Gayle,
I just thought of another suggestion, depending on if you want to drive a bit or not. There is a new inn that opened in Wakefield (a major restoration job of an old mill) last year that gets great reviews, we wanted to go but non-smoking of course , so I have never been personally. They have gotten great reviews though. They have a Sunday Brunch, I just called for you, and it offers both hot and cold buffet. Their food is supposed to be very good. It would be a pleasant drive, not even 1/2 an hour from your hotel. Their number is 1-888-567-1838, and their website is www.wakefieldmill.com

I don't know what you mean by 'upscale' but a good brunch is at Tuckers on the market. Lots of good choices.

Hi Sherry!
Thanks so very much. I was about to email you to tell you we'd all show up at your place then I saw your follow up post on The Wakefield Inn and it sounds perfect, especially for a Sunday drive. Thanks you very much for calling and for the web address. Very thoughtful.

Hi Gayle,
I'm glad that you got the post...I thought you had already left and were in Ottawa this past weekend. Since then
I have asked a few friends if they have been to the Wakefield Inn yet, and unfortunately they havent, most say "What??? Brunch somewhere other than SHerry's??!!" At which time they also politely remind me that its been awhile since their last invite So sure, come on over Gayle! Now, if I am working on that Sunday, you dont mind a hamburger or grilled chicken sandwich on the BBQ compliments of hubby, do you? HAHA.

Seriously though, I think it will be nice, and hopefully the weather will be better than it has been. Actually while it was pouring rain Sunday I was thinking what a bad day for you. Wakefield is a small little town that you can stroll around after the brunch and check out a few little shops or something. I hope the food is good, seems to be ok decor from the pics on the website, keep in mind, I havent been there myself. Which weekend are you coming? Maybe try for a reservation, especially if its the long weekend. Have a great time Gayle.

Hi Sherry,
Nice to hear from you. We're coming to town from July 5-7. Believe it or not it's to celebrate my grandmother's 95th birthday!! Even though the party is at The Chateau, my husband and I, our grown up son and my mother-in-law are all staying at Arc, The Hotel (stupid name, nice hotel) on Slater Street. I'm hoping for great weather as we have a lot planned. We will make reservations at The Wakefield Inn as it is in fact the long weekend. I'll let you know how it is. Thanks for the BBQ brunch offer. it would work for me!! Maybe next time! (HA)
