Hello,
I am planning on flying into Montreal and renting a car. I am also wanting to spend some time in Quebec City. My return flight will be from Montreal so I am wanting to do some kind of loop to return to Montreal for the fly out. What is within reach by car of these 2 cities that I could/should fit in? Natural resources or cultural/historical areas would be preferred. Also, any plugs for restaurants are appreciated. Thanks.

How many days do you have? Montreal to Quebec City is a 3 hour drive (nothing much to see in between)

Lots to see in Montreal and Quebec City. Out of Montreal you could go up north and visit Mont Tremblant (1 1/2 hour drive) and out of Quebec City you could go to Mount Ste-Anne or see the water falls near by and visit the Orleans Island.

I'm very flexible on the times for each city. As it stands now, I arrive in Montreal on a Thurs. evening and leave the following week Sunday. I am familiar with the glowing reports on both cities, however, I always enjoy the smaller towns/natural sights when I travel. Can you provide some more info on the waterfalls you mentioned? Is this the park where they also have concerts, etc.? Also, feel free to pitch an amount of days you think I should spend in both Montreal and Quebec City. Thanks for your response.

If you have 10 days, do not miss Charlevoix and the Saguenay. Very, very nice scenery, good restaurants, charming hotels & lots to do.

From Quebec City, Take route 138 towards Baie St-Paul (1 night). Then take 362 to La Malbaie and 138 again to St-Siméon. Take 170 to Anse St-Jean (1 night). Drive back to QC.

We just got home from Quebec City today--actually 3 1/2 hours ago plane landed. Absolutely loved it, I think it is my new favorite city over all we've visited. Regarding the drive from Montreal to Quebec, it is 3 hours by highway; however, if you have time, you can take the slower route(s) on either side of the St. Lawrence river for a more relaxed scenic drive going either to or from. Today, we opted to take 138 down to Trois Rivers from Quebec before getting on the highway to get back to the airport. What a different, relaxed ride driving through the quaint little towns with well-kept homes on the river. In Quebec City, they are currently playing music in the Belanger bandstand in the Plains of Abraham Thursday through Sunday evenings at 8:00--we heard a jazz concert there last night--it was great! The park is located near the Citadel and just behind the Loews hotel--and I definitely recommend this hotel, especially if you get a river view room. We had a room on the 21st floor overlooking the river and the Frontenac right out our window--incredible view. In addition, while you are there, you absolutely should plan a minimum 1/2 day to drive over to I'le de Orleans and do a driving tour of the outer perimeter of this island. Words cannot describe the charm and history here. It's about a 15 minute drive from Quebec City. While you do that, either en route to or on the way back, plan to stop at Montmorency Park to walk over and view the falls--the park is the same exit as to bridge to go over to the Island. We visited Montreal last summer and did Quebec this summer. Personally, I would visit Quebec again in a heartbeat. Montreal was nice, but to me Quebec had that certain something that would have me return again and again.

Bonjour, In Quebec city allows one day to go at Ile d'Orleans, 20 minutes away from the city, this is an island with beautiful houses. The St-Laurent and St-Jean little town on the island are a must see
