Quebec hotel for winter carnival 2009

Hi, any suggestions on a hotel that is central to the winter carnival activities ? We will be with a 3 year old so would like to try to find someplace that is convenient to go back and forth throughout the day without taking the car each time

Thanks!

The best alternatives to be within 5-10 minutes would be Le Concorde, Hilton, Chateau Frontenac,Clarendon or any BB that are close to these hotels.Your best choice with a 3 year old is Le Concorde close to the family activities of the carnival. Bring warm clothes it can be within -5 to - 25c

We stayed at the Hotel Clarendon (recommended by the poster above) on rue Ste. Anne. It was inexpensive and included buffet breakfast and the room was very good with a view of the old city. Location-wise it was great as it was highly convenient to the Funiculaire and pretty much everywhere else.

If there is ANY way you can afford the Chateau Frontenac you should give it a try...it is more than a place to stay, it is part of the Quebec winter carnival experience. We just attended a conference in Quebec and stayed at some dinky B&B across the square from the Chateau to save money. We spent half our time regretting the decision and half eating in the CF restaurants, poking around their romantic halls and peeking in their grand rooms and drinking in their bars. But you do pay through the nose for the privilege!

Thank you for the suggestions! Does it get very crowded during carnival? We have been there the week before carnival in years past but never during the actual carnival. I wish we could stay at the Chateau, our little princess would probably love it but it is definitely out of our budget.

For Carnaval, Chateau Laurier is one block from the snow sculptures and field of activities. They are very clean, friendly and have some great deals too. It is also close enough to walk downtown to the Chateau Frontenac. I think the CF is too far away with a little one. You don't want to be driving during Carnaval.
