Hi all:

I have heard that the Post Hotel in Lake Louise is really nice. However, for the price of a standard hotel room on the "Preferrred Side" with no fireplace, we could also stay in cabins (that appear to be nicer on the inside than the Post rooms) at other places, such as Cathedral Mountain Lodge (about 15 minutes away). I know the Post restaurant is supposed to be fanastic, but other than that, is the Lodge itself worth the price? Also, is there something special about its setting, as compared to other places?

We stayed in a cabin at the Post Hotel 4 years ago and it is our favorite vacation ever. If I remember correctly, the cabins at the Post were cheaper than the rooms and they are wonderful. They overlook a river, have fireplaces and are very romantic. You can check out movies at the front desk and in the evenings we would curl up in front of the fire and watch a movie. The restaurant is fantastic. We can't wait to go back and stay there again.

Thank you for sharing your experience. From what I have read, everyone who stays in the cabins seems to agree with you--they all love it. Unfortantely, however, the cabins are all sold out for when we will be there (mid-September), and our only option (within a reasonable price range) is the C room for $360CAN a night. These appear to be fairly standard looking hotel rooms with no fire place.

Did you try the Paradise Lodge and Cabins? It is on the road between Lake Louise Village (where the Post Hotel) is and Lake Louise. We stayed in a cabin there last September and loved it.

I know they close their cabins sometime in September. They were supposed to be closed when we were there (late September), but since the weather was unseasonably warm, they kept their cabins open on a day by day basis. They said if it got too cold the pipes would freeze. The lodge is open longer--and that is were we would have moved to
if the weather hadn't held out. They don't have a restaurant on their premises, but Deer Lodge and Lake Louise are about a 5-10 minute drive away in one direction and the Village is about the same in the other.

Hi-I just stayed in a "C" cabin at the Post Hotel and loved it. We were on the second floor on the "preferred" side. We could sleep with our balcony doors open all night and hear the creek below. It was wonderful. I didn't want to leave. Yes, it was expensive, but the location, grounds and elegant, yet casual atmosphere made it worth it to me. I can't wait to return.

Just got back Sunday night from the Rockies. Stayed in the hostel near the Post - which seemed really lovely. On our last night we stayed at the Paridise Lodge, in a room (31) and fell in love with it. Could not have been happier, it is a really nice place! We needed 2 rooms and the Post was certainly out of our price range, but it is a truly lovely spot. Lots of the guests sat outside beside the river to have dinner and wine.

I saw the hostel and Paradise Lodge and thought those both looked great too.
What was your lodge room like?

Thank you all for your help! It sounds like we cannot go wrong with either the Post or cabins like Paradise Lodge. Since this is our first time in the Canadian Rockies, we think we will try both the Post and some cabins so we will know what we prefer next time.

We also stayed in a Cabin at the Post Hotel and would give it raves. However, IMO you do NOT want to stay on the front (not "prefered" side) of the hotel. In addition to facing west, so you will get the full afternoon sun (it was hot when we were there), there is a train track VERY nearby and apparently the trains go by every hour or so. On the back ("prefered" side) it is shady and the rushing water drowns out any other noise. The restaurant is excellent.

I just wanted to add that the Post Hotel restaurant was VERY expensive. It might be a good idea to look at the menu first. We had the BEST meal at the Baker Creek Bistro between Banff and Lake Louie on the Bowriver Parkway. The handmade mushroom tortellin were wonderful.

SO glad I saw this post. We are heading to Lake Louise in August and I booked a "preferred side) room at the Post Hotel. This is our big splurge of the trip and I thought maybe I'm it's not really worth it. But reading this, I think I made a good choice. Also booked the restaurant. Heard it's got great food!

You won't regret staying at the Post--if you stay on the preferred side. I still sit and dream about it. You can walk across the footbridge over the rushing creek in the morning for some wonderful pastries and coffee, sit out on their lawn and relax anytime and have a wonderful view of the mountains.
You are in for a treat.

Deborahk - sorry for the late response (quite sick last week). Anyway - our lodge room (at Paradise) was really wonderful. 2 large rooms, with a bathroom and kitchenette. Also a very nice balcony. A really beautiful room.

Well worth it . . . it was the highlight of our trip -- preferred it over the Banff Springs Hotel.

A word of warning for anyone considering staying at The Post. If you or anybody you are travelling with is a light sleeper, you may want to reconsider as the Post does not have blockout curtains. Which means you'll be woken at the crack of dawn on one side of the hotel, while the lights from the carpark on the other side will ensure that you don't get any sleep in the first place. TML 14, you are not alone in your lack of answer from the Post, as mine and my wife's complaint about this still remains unanswered almost a year after it was being made. So in reply to whether the Post is worth the money, well let's just say their failure to answer your question is not an anomaly.

Paul - you do realize that this post is 2 1/2 years old and that TML has long ago made a decision regarding staying at the Post Hotel?

Sorry for the confusion. Yeah, you're right. I was told by somebody where I could find the thread - it was meant to be number 31 on a list but that wasn't it, so I scrolled down and stumbled onto what I thought was the one, didn't read it properly and that clearly wasn't it. I couldn't get to the thread via the thread select thing you sent me, either. Bit of a technophobe, I'm afraid.

This is a very OLD post, and I returned back from my trip of Aug 2005!!, but what the heck will give my review anyway. We did stay at the POST Hotel and it was very nice! I little overpriced, IMO, but loved the location on the river (or stream or whatever it was that ran behind the hotel). However, if I was "loaded", my first choice would be the Fairmont Lake Louise for the views and location, and the Post Hotel would definitely be my 2nd choice.
