My husband and I are headed to PEI tomorrow for 2 weeks. What are the three best restaurants and / or three best meals to have while there??? I live to eat, and always seek out the best food wherever we go. We don't care about atmosphere, but it's nice to have. We are also interested in learning about the "green" (meaning environmental) mindset of the island... and would like to learn about how this community created and passed the environmentally conscious laws that exist there. Is it realistic to try to take a ferry to Cape Breton ??? or should we stick to PEI. Lastly, what are the three best natural sights??? Anything to AVOID?? We are in Fort Augustus while there...

Sorry, can't help you w/ the restaurants or your "green" question but I do know there is no ferry to Cape Breton from PEI.

If you're going to be in Charlottetown you can have a wonderful lobster dinner at Prince & Water. Here's the website:

Go for the lobster dinner which starts out with a huge appetizer of wonderful mussels. We were walking by earlier in the day so we stopped in and made reservations for that night and I was glad we did. Reservations will save you a wait or disappointment.

Hi, I'd recommend 'Dayboat' in Oyster Bed Bridge' for fine dining/seafood; ask to sit on the extensive patio overlooking the water.

The 'Merchantman Pub' in Charlottetown for simple but delicious pub food, very popular locally, I'd advise reservations at all of these btw.

The restaurant at the 'Inn at St. Peters' is lovely with excellent food.

'Dalvay House' is a lovely spot to eat but the food can be up or down I'm afraid.

One of the traditional church lobster suppers are always fun; there's St. Anne's in New Glasgow. The P.E.I. government has a really good website - google tourism, P.E.I. which has extensive listings of restaurants, locations, types of cuisine etc. Enjoy your trip; I adore P.E.I. especially in July when the beaches have the warmest ocean waters.

Shaw's Hotel on Brackley Beach,PEI, serves lobster 2 nights a week.

We did go to Shaw's and it's a very charming place. It's out of Charlottetown but we arranged for a cab to take us and pick us up and it wasn't too expensive. I don't think we were there on lobster night though.

gtg, when were you there? I have not been to Shaw's in a million years but I hear it is still v/ good. Waaaay back in the 70's I had a Summer job @ Shaw's Hotel!!

I know we were there for Canada Day weekend because we did a whole bunch of stuff at the harbour in C'town but I can't remember when. It wasn't that long ago, though -- maybe 07?

We don't eat our often while home but we like to eat at the Lobster Pound on the wharf in Charlottetown. I would second the vote for St Annes as the best lobster supper. You also asked about natural wonders. I would choose the sandunes at St Peters Bay, the tidal bore at Basin Head and I'll have to think of another

On the Cape Breton question. You have to take the ferry to Nova Scotia the drive to Cape Breton. With two weeks you have time to do PEI and Cape Breton as long as you don't try to do anything else in Nova Scotia you still won't feel too rushed. If you like cycling PEI is very advanced in their set up of the confederation trails so you can bike a long way without having to hit the road, this might be part of the green topic you mentioned.
