Niagara Falls - Rental Car Issues

My friend (German citizen) wants to visit Niagara Falls and stay overnight on the Canadian side. The rental car company she plans to deal with will not let a non-U.S. citizen take their car across the border.

Are there any options for parking on the U.S. side and then taking a taxi or shuttle across to the Canadian side and back again? Any idea of the cost of a taxi to do this and is it even possible? I realize it's not far, but assume there might be extra fees involved.

This would be for one overnight that she would need parking on the U.S. side.

Any ideas?

Your friend can park for free at the Seneca Niagara Casino parking Ramp in Niagara Falls USA and then catch a Cab at the Casino entrance across to Canada... They should ask the Driver before entering the Cab if he will take them over and at what fees... when they return use the same procedure and have the driver take them right to their car!!! There will be charges for the Bridge toll of $3.25 plus the meter will run while they wait in line for the bridge...

Gary, that's great news and you were so helpful to share that. I had hoped it could be that simple. Thanks.

Apparently you can just walk across. Sounds like lots of people do it.

Get a different car rental company. We used Enterprise in Buffalo and had no problem taking the car across. The walk is more than I would sign up for.

I'll tell her to also check Enterprise, but she must rent here in Pittsburgh where she will arrive from Germany.

She would be happy to pay for a taxi, as it seems they are available, and wouldn't want to walk, with luggage in tow.

sdtravels, are you a non-U.S. citizen as well? That seems to be the hangup with National.

No, I am a US citizen. Sorry. Your friend will love the Canadian side. She should try to get a falls view room. The Maid of the mist and Cave of the Winds are also worth while.
