Niagara Falls--Brock or Marriott Fallsview?

We'll be spending one night in NF in July, and want a fallsview room. We have booked a standard fallsview room at the Marriott, but for about $50 more, we can have 2 adjoining bedrooms with a floor to ceiling window at the Brock. (We'll have 2 teenaged boys with us.)
Are the Brock's rooms and facilities up to date? Any comments from those with some info on this? Thanks!

Teddie,
The Brock is a beautiful, restored historical hotel in a great location. Haven't seen the rooms but walked through the lobby while attending a conference in the area and was very impressed. Spoke with friends who stayed there and they thought it was beautiful. Lots of atmosphere and it overlooks a memorial garden and the falls. I would have no hesitation in staying there.

Teddie - I hate to disagree with a fellow poster, but I have stayed in the rooms and they are quite worn...That doesn't mean you shouldn't stay there...

The Brock is attached to the Niagara Casino and does offer a decent view, a food court, a Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood and the Hersheys store. You are right in the heart of the "tacky zone".

With teenage boys you are better off buying the extra room, even though you will have to put up with the carpet stains, cold water shower, and less than perfect rooms...

One warning... don't eat there, the food is low quality, buffet style, and is more worn than the rooms.

Thanks Barb & Gary..

The history of the Brock intrigues me, but, alas, a cold shower does not...sigh

To be fair, I'd like to hear from any others who have also stayed at the Marriott or the Brock in NF recently..thanks!

I stayed at the Brock last June for 3 nights and i found the rooms to be a bit old but not dirty and I did not take a cold shower the whole time I was there. The location is great especially with kids. I agree with the other post as to the food very poor quality but there are plenty of place nearby so if they offered you a meal plan I would only go with breakfast and skip dinners. The lobby is also a lovely old lobby. Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks, Anncat. I'm in a quandary between the old and the new..I still have the ressies for the 2 rooms at the Brock, but upgraded the Marriott to a family suite until I can make up my mind...it's all part of my usual trip planning process of elimination! Thanks

We live in Toronto, but from time to time take weekends with or without our kids in Niagara Falls. Definitely go with the Marriott. At check-in confirm you've got a fallsview - or better yet, call the front desk the day before and have them block off the right room with the right view. Forget the Brock unless you want to experience that "oh, yuck" feeling we've all had when we open the door to a dim, worn room. Plus, you know the grief the teens are going to give you if the room "sucks".

We just came back from spending two nights at the Marriott fallsview - and it was wonderful - the view was to die for- I didn't expect anything like that-it was worth every penny -to see such a terrific view of both falls and the surrounding areas- it was my first time to see the falls and staying at the Marriott is highly recommended by myself and husband. They have a shuttle to go to the casino/or in town and parking is $13.00. We didn't eat there - but there are restaurants around/or go downtown. Everyone was very helpful there - and they have a pool in the lower level. We had a wonderful time - I'm sure that you will also.

Thanks, J & Dot!
J, you echo my sentiments regarding the teenager's dreaded lament (this sucks, mom!). Your response is exactly what I needed to hear....I've already decided to go with the Marriott.

Dot, how frequently do the shuttles run, and do they charge for its use? thanks again
