area around greater victoria

Hoping someone can help us narrow down areas to stay in the Greater Victoria area in July. We will be six days on the island and would like to stay on or near the water, B+B's are great or self catering style accomodations. We would use it as a base for longer day excursions to explore other areas. Any suggestions or recommendations would be so helpful. We have some feelers out in the Cordoba Bay and Brentwood Bay area, but are open to suggestions, Thanks so much in advance.

I always liked a place called the Royal Scot in downtown Victoria. It is just a block from the inner harbour, and about a ten minute walk to the beaches along Dallas Road. It what they call a "suite hotel", meaning many units have full kitchens with all utensils, cooking needs etc.

Cordova Bay and Brentwood Bay should be fine and so would many other areas like James Bay, Fairfield, Rockland, Oak Bay, Saanich and Sidney. Generally - just my opinion - I would avoid the Gorge, Esquimalt, Colwood, Langford.

We stayed at a b&b last year in Metchosin, just outside of Victoria, and liked it so much we're going back this year. Check out www.swallowhillfarm.com. They're a pretty small place and book up quickly, but if they're full at the time you're travelling, they can make other recommendations.

In Cordova Bay just outside Victoria, see Cordova Beach B&B < www.cordovabeach.com > It is right on the beach and has easy access to most places you probably want to go.

We stayed at a B&B last September about 10 min outside of downtown Victoria that was just wonderful. In fact, we're hoping to go back this fall after our Alaska cruise. (Retirement is Heaven!)
Check out arundelmanor.com
