I'll be taking my daughter up ( from the US ) to see Queen's University in April. Can anyone recommend a decent place to stay for 2 nights? We don't want to have to do a lot of driving, and simple but clean and quiet is fine for us.

Also, I've seen good reviews for Green Acres Inn and Executive Inn. (That price range -- about $75-$125 CAD -- would work for us, but I'm never against spending less rather than more...;-). Any specific thoughts on either of these?

There are lots of B&B's in the area too.

B&Bs sound great to me, but the daughter prefers hotels. She feels too much like a guest in someone's house and never quite relaxes. But thanks for the other web site -- a lot like our hotels.com.

Stay downtown near the lake - you can walk to the campus easily and get a real feel for the atmosphere of the University

Made a reservation at Residence Inn -- I hope that's near the lake. It looks like I can walk to campus from there. I got a pretty good rate, too, so it was about $25 less than Four Points, which also looked nice. Thanks for all the advice!

Now, any idea what a teen would want to do to get the flavor of the area? She's not a typical teen (tends to be less into the latest stuff). I know everyone will ask me what she likes, but she's pretty open to a lot of stuff so it's hard for me to narrow her down! But no clubs, no fine arts, no classical music, shopping at funky stores rather than high-class stuff, and everything else is a possibility!

Perfect choice. Walk to Queen's by taking Bagot Street, the Stuart, then up Founder's Row past Grant Hall and up University.

Fort Henry Historic Site is probably the prime thing to do - you can even walk there across the LaSalle Causeway.

You could also take boat over to Wolfe Island, one of the "1000 Islands" that exagerratingly dot the area.

As for the funky shopping, I'm too far from graduation to know the local scene, especially for young women, but everything commercial pretty much happens right on Princess Street, starting near the lake. or King/Earl/Gore streets, right in front of your hotel.

Tell her to accept admission - it is an awesome place to go to school.
