Just got back from Banff...we loved this restaurant.

It may be a little pricy for some..but The Maple Leaf restaurant in Banff was fabulous. Food was superb, excellent service and the best wine list we saw in the Canadian Rockies.

Thanks for the recommendation. Any other restaurants in the Lake Louise/Banff area you thought were great?

Thanks, Dick

We are going in just over 6 weeks, and I was looking for a great restraunt suggestion. We will be tent camping/cooking mostly but the link to this restraunt was just up our ally. Warm brie salad was enough to hook me--let alone the rest of the menu.

If you don't mind, about how much were the entres? I'm guessing $25-$35 each is that in the ballpark?

Dick - Glad to hear that you had a great experience at Maple Leaf Grill in Banff; ours was just the opposite. I found the food so mediocre that I can hardly recall what I ate, and the service was appallingly bad.

Our best dining experience from every consideration - food, presentation, service, ambience, wine list etc. etc. - in the Rockies was at the Post Hotel in Lake Louise (very pricey but well worth it in IMHO). Weblink = http://www.posthotel.com/

Other fine dining in the Banff/Lake Louise area includes Eden dining room at the Rimrock ($$$$$) ), Le Beaujolais in Banff (on the main street), the Banff Springs (Fairmont) Hotel does a fine brunch buffet. Buffalo Mountain Lodge is good for dinner too.

In my opinion all of the above are way better then Maple Leaf Grill. However, I have to add that any discussion of food is very subjective (and depends very much on individual experience, that is , on what happens the evening that you decide to dine, whether the chef is in a good mood, whether shipment of any ingredient has been delayed, on the quality of the servers that night and so on).

sorry you had a bad experience at the Maple Leaf.

I think that part of the problem is because Banff is so seasonal. It is unlikely that they have the same staff year round.

Yes, entrees are in the 25-35 range with some specials in the high 40's.

We were impressed with the service beginning with the way the server presented the day's specials. The service was very attentive without becoming overly famlilar. They had a wonderful wine list and automatically decanted our wine before serving.

We thought that the food quality was excellent.

I might add, we come from
a major US city so it isn't as though we we new to better dining.
