The gay district in Toronto is east of Jarvis street on Church street near and south of Carlton street. It is not near Yonge and College where the Marriott is located.

The above poster needs a little help with geography. Church Street is west of Jarvis, not east. The area that could be referred to as the "gay district" is north of Carlton, not south. Carlton changes its name to College Street at Yonge, which is a block west of Church, so if that's where the Marriott is, it's within a couple of blocks of the "gay district." I'm not sure from your question whether you were trying to stay near that area or avoid it; the area itself is quite pleasant and friendly.

Pardon my geography, and you are correct. It is a nice area with good restaurants and nice shops. Also while at Yonge and College, I do not feel like I am in the "gay" district any more than I do anywhere else downtown. It is not an issue if you want to stay at the Marriott.
