Is Smoke A Problem Still In Baniff?
We are leaving in two weeks for Glacier Park and we had planned on going to Baniff and Lake Louise and The Icelandic Parkway. Are the fires still a problem We both suffer from allergy and we were wondering if smoke and haze is still a problem. We were looking so forward to the Icelandic Parkway. Any helpful information would be appreciated.

The fires are not near Banff or Lake Louise, fortunately, but a friend of mine who lives and works there says they have good days and bad days, depending on the winds. I'm going myself in 10 days for the 7th time and I have been checking the webcams everyday to see if the smoke is bad: good days and bad days! The situation can change anytime, for better or worse, so it's best to go with the flow! I think you mean to say the Icefield Parkway..! Have fun!

I drove through this area last Sunday. The smoke between Lake Louise and Banff was pretty bad that day, we had to turn off the fan in the car as it was sucking in smoke. However as the other poster said, it depends on the day and which way the wind is blowing.

Sabrina, check the Alberta webcams at www.theweathernetwork.com/features/camweather/
Sulphur Mountain is overlooking Banff and it seems to be the worse looking one! I think it`s in part due to the image itself (it`s never very crisp) However, it was pretty clear yesterday, but mostly smoky. Lake Louise area seems clear, much better than Banff and the Three Sisters (Canmore) is also always clear. Since Banff is between Canmore and Lake Louise, I have my doubts about the clarity of the webcam on Sulphur...Even the webcam in Kelowna don`t seem that bad...Anyway, let`s hope it will clear out soon. That website also have a section for fire updates. Let me know if you need more info. Cheers!
