We need hotel suggestions for a trip to British Columbia. We look for a quiet room with a comfortable bed, a refrigerator in the room or a breakfast included, and, when on the water or in the mountains, a room with a deck and view.

We like to stay in a good place, but it doesn't need to be the "best" in town.

The Grand in Kelowna is on the water but expensive. There are several hotels up the strip - such as Comfort Inns, etc.

In Penticton the Lakeside Resort is right on the lake with rooms with balcony. Here is their website

basic room, good location for getting around - sandman hotel in kelowna. in whistler, we stayed at the moutainside lodge. separate bedroom with a fireplace, small living room with kitchen for $149. nothing grand to say about the view but it was one of the more economical hotels in whistler. outdoor pool & hot tub.

Edgewater Lodge about 2km outside of Whistler is worth checking out. Great views, very quiet, basic accomodations and good breakfast buffet. Excellent dinner.

Our favorite place to stay in Whistler is the Pan Pacific.

The 3 nicest places in Kelowna on the water are: the Grand Okanagan Resort, Manteo Beach resort, and the Hotel Eldorado. All are very nice and fairly expensive, Another one to check out is called Kelowna Lakeshore Inn. it is also right on the water, but is a more moderate motel style. It always looks so nice and clean. check out www.lakeshoreinn.com
There are also a number of motels dirctly across the street from Gyro Beach Park. (one of the nicest beaches in town)
The ones that come to mind are: Pandosy Inn,
Mission Park Inn, Gyro Beach resort, Sandalwood Inn. There might be a couple more I just can't think of the names off hand.

In Penticton, we like the Ramada Inn. Now, let me first say that here in the US we would not even consider staying at one of these...but this one is very nice! We stopped there after driving from Seattle on our way to Lake Louise. It was a perfect midpoint to stop. Anyway, the hotel does not look like anything great when you drive up, but once you enter and see the courtyard area things change! There is a wonderful pool that has bar and restaurant service right there. A fitness yurt is next to the pool. The room was updated and everything was in perfect condition. Both the room and the bathroom were quite large. Our room was between the pool and the back parking lot, and it was nice and quiet. I do not remember if we had a refrigerator or not, sorry. The hotel had a continental breakfast in the morning, which was plentiful. We found a good rate on Expedia only a few days before our trip. We liked this hotel so much that we are planning a stay there again next summer on our way back to the Rockies.

A suggestion for Whistler would be the new Pan Pacific Village Centre which we stayed in this past weekend. Just opened, they've been offering a great deal at $159 for a lower 1 bedroom suite (w/balcony & kitchen) including hot buffet breakfast and afternoon munchies.

It's perfectly located in the main village while not being too close too the noise and near the walkover to the upper village.

Rooms were nicely decorate and decently sized. Our 1 bedroom had a pullout coach and chaise lounge with tv's in the bedroom and main room. Amenities included 2 hot tubs, sauna and heated lap pool that was large enough for the kids.

My only disappointment was that while staff was polite and courteous, they did not make any extra effort to offer us a better view room since we ended up facing the inner courtyard or earlier check-in (since we arrived around 12noon on their first day of opening) despite my mentioning that it was a surprise for our 15th wedding anniversary.

But I had great time in Whistler!
