Hotels in Vancouver
Hello! Hubby and I will be visiting Vancouver B.C. for the first time in September. I've started researching Vancouver and have become overwhelmed very quickly with the numerous places to stay. We're hoping to stay where we have access to the most "tourist" things like museums, shopping, and good restaurants. We presume this would be Downtown Vancouver? What area do most tourists stay when visiting Vancouver? What hotels would you recommend? We are looking to stay in a more upscale hotel (no B&Bs) and spend about $150-$200/night US Dollar. Any recommendations you can provide would be great. Thanks much!

We just came back and cannot say enough good things about the Wedgewood Hotel in Vancouver. It was rated the number one hotel in Canada and number 12 in North America by Conde Nast readers. Check out the packages -- we did the bed and breakfast which was 229 Canadian then but for high season I think it goes up. They upgraded us to a suite and everyone knows you by name there. You get fresh cookies every night wnd we had a box of chocolates left for us also. They were great.

Hi:
A few years ago Delta Suites on West Hastings. They were nice 2 room suites, conveniently located downtown & close to a subway stop (transit system isn't bad). I just looked at their web site (www.delta-hotels.com) and their 'generic' rate should be within your price range.

I always chime in when people talk about the Wedgewood - it's an absolutely wonderful hotel. The rooms are lovely, and the staff is the friendliest and most competent I've encountered anywhere. It's located across the road from the courthouse; you can walk a couple of blocks to Robson Street, where most of the shopping is, or down the other way, where you can catch a water taxi to Granville Island right at the foot of Hornby Street. Gastown and Stanley Park are also within walking distance, although the walk is a bit longer (maybe 15-20 minutes).

If you are willing to deal with a bit of uncertainty, bidding on Priceline for a room seems to be too good of a deal to miss. I'll be staying at the Westin Bayshore for $48!! You can limit your bid to 4 star hotels, so you are certain to be a good place. Check out this message board for more detailed information about using priceline for vancouver:

I think you should check out the Wedgewood. Friends of our recently got married in Vancouver and spent 5 nights at the Wedgewood. These are well travelled folks who could not stop talking about the remarkable service at the Wedgewood.
