Planning a trip during late May and wondering if such a thing exists? Current plans are to drive our party of 5 but the<BR>thought that we could avoid the traffic makes a ferry sound fun. Need a link or other information if this is available. Thanks. Sonya

Sonya:<BR>The only way to avoid traffic from TO to NFLD is via air! The ony ferry available to NFLD is from Sydney, NS.

Sonya - to avoid the traffic, DO NOT drive any weekend day evening between 3 - 7pm. Head down on a Sat morning and it will take you just over an hour (just did the drive recently).

Boy, do I feel stupid. I thought it was Newfoundland too!

Sonya- There is no ferry from Toronto to Niagara Falls, however the drive is not that bad during NON-rush hour times. It will take you about 90 minutes and there are several wineries off of the QEW highway. Plan a lunch at Penninsula Ridge or Vineland Estates along with some wine tasting.

There used to be, at least twice in my memory and more times before that in the memory of my dead father, who died several years ago, ferry boats from Toronto to Niagara on the Lake.<BR><BR>So you are not nuts for thinking about them.<BR><BR>However, the businessmen who ran them were apparently nuts, because they have stopped running (the boats, not the businessmen) because of economics. Whether anyone starts them up again next spring is anybody's guess. The current non-running boats are catamarans, and look sleek and fun to ride on. Except they don't run anymore. They are parked on land in Toronto harbour, or were the last time I looked.<BR><BR>Furthermore, if they did run, you'd be limited in getting around once you got to Niagara on the lake.<BR><BR>Driving to Niagara is not bad, assuming you are used to some degree of traffic, and you take Ariel's advice and avoid leaving Toronto in rush hour along with all the people who live to the west of the city. But if you leave Toronto in the morning during theweek, or Saturday morning, traffic is not bad.<BR><BR>There are several routes, but most people just take the Queen Elizabeth Way, a multi-lane interstate-style road. Spend some time with a map, and figure out a sort of circle through Niagara Falls, then along the Niagara River to Niagara on the Lake, and then back to Toronto.<BR><BR><BR><BR>

The drive is quite nice and along the way are many very nice wineries to stop in and taste and buy. The wine in this area is really very good, and the region is known for its Ice Wine - oh so good and oh so expensive, even in $CA! Niagra on the Lake is a wonderful town to spend some time in...it is very senic, has good eating and shopping. To actually see the falls will not take long...if you decide to do the Maid of the Mist then you will be there a bit longer. If all you want to do is see the falls, park the car, walk over to the overlook, gaze a while, and you are finished. Maid of the Mist is fun.<BR>

Hi ...<BR><BR>There is a hydrofoil that leaves Toronto at 10 AM during the summer season & goes to Niagara. Takes about 1 hour .... not cheap .... $80 CAN return.<BR><BR>Not sure of web site, but I can find it again if required. or do a search on niagara hydrofoil ...<BR><BR>Hope that helps<BR><BR>Mark
