Help us find the right Vancouver restaurant
Calling all mavens,
we need your help to find an excellent Chinese or Japanese restaurant to drop into en route from Whistler to Seattle on Sunday. We want something really specially good that won't require reservations, and won't take too long to get to from the highway. Please no "just wander around Chinatown, there are so many great choices"-- I know, that's why I need just one name! What's your favourite?? Outstanding sushi? Authentic Cantonese? We will have 2 kids (who are great in restaurants so no need to dumb down the quality) but no time for wandering.
Thanks a lot!

My very favourite Chinese is the
Imperial. http://www.imperialrest.com/imperial.html
The food is just excellent and the restaurant is lovely inside. Its in the old stock exchange building on Burrard which doesn't take you too far from you route to Whistler if you are going over the Lions Gate Bridge. It is quite large so I think it wouldn't be a problem without a reservation. Take a look at their menu on the website but I guarantee you won't be disappointed with the quality of the food.

Great recommendation-- THANK YOU! We indeed stopped there last night and it was great-- some of the best Chinese we've ever had. The whole family loved it. We were doubly lucky as there was a big group downstairs and we had the whole upper floor to ourselves, so the kids could shake out their travel legs a bit while we enjoyed really way more courses than we needed.

Curiouser - I'm so glad you enjoyed the Imperial. I always recommend it as number one Chinese food in an elegant dining room. I don't want to date myself but when I was a little girl my Dad used to take me into that building to see how the "stock market" operated so the building itself has great memories let alone great food!!!
