Germain, Vogue or Sofitel

We really like to stay at very upscale hotels. Not necessarily formal - as we are not fancy people, but we really enjoy staying in very clean beautiful rooms. From what I have read on this website, the Germain, Sofitel and Vogue all looked interesting. Germain has some great recommendations, but the AAA book only gives it 3 stars. (Loew's and Sofitel each got 4). We have never stayed at a 3 star hotel that we thought was really impressive. The Loew's Vogue is the only one with the Mobil 4 diamond award, Sofitel only received 3 diamonds, and they didn't review Germain. The AAA rating made me wonder if the rooms at Germain weren't as nice as the Loew's. Then to further confuse me Frommers gave Sofitel 3 stars and Loew's only 2! So please help - any advice is greatly appreciated!

I don't know about the star ratings you are looking at; it may be that pools, gyms and spas, business centers etc.. add to the stars; the Germain has none of those; one thing that impressed me is that they had free wireless internet access with your laptop...

Those 3 hotels are great !

You can see the rooms and what the hotel looks like on their site.

Have a look at the reviews for all those places on TripAdvisor.com

We've stayed at the Hotel Vogue and Sofitel with Priceline/Hotwire.

Our hotel of choice in Montreal, though, is one that is more friendly and comfortably throughout, rather than so slick and modern...

Probably better to consider "experiences" of others than "star" ratings here and everywhere.

All in all, everything turns on what you, personally, would consider "impressive".

I have looked at them on the tripadvisor site. They all have mostly good reviews, but there are some negative ones. Which had nicer accomodations the Vogue or Sofitel? Thanks!

Just guessing but having seen them both, I would bet the Sofitel is the nicer. And it is the newer of the two.

I have stayed at the Vogue and would definitely stay there again. Very chic and close to everything.
