Flight prices, Vancouver - Calgary?

My brother and I will be in Vancouver and the Banff/Jasper area in August. Though we'd talked about driving as well, we would prefer to fly from Vancouver to Calgary in order to maximize our time in the mountains. Right now flights are running about $220 for the day we would need to travel (we're kind of locked in due to my work conference in Vancouver, but searching one day before and after didn't make much difference anyway). Is that typical for a one-way, YVR-YYC flight? If so, we'll consider driving. Or do prices usually go down/on sale? Thanks so much for your advice!

Check Westjet.com or air canada- not many options. most of the price is probably taxes and fees.

Thanks! Yep, I've been checking both, via Kayak and their direct sites. They're both running about $174 + taxes and fees at the moment. I looked a week or two ago and they were $133 total - wish I'd been able to buy then!

Sign up to get WestJet's email advisory, you will get notification when they have a seat sale (which they had just a couple of weeks ago).

Thanks, cruiseryyc. I tried to do that a few days ago but I think something was wrong with the site - good reminder to try again!

MrShort, what date were you looking for? I'm still getting $200+ on WestJet and Air Canada, and have been for the last week or so.

MrShort probably got in on the one day sale that WestJet had last week. One of the reasons to sign up for their email notifications.

Thanks. I tried again today with a different browser and hopefully it went through this time (I had been using Google Chrome, and I don't think they got along very well!). I signed up for Air Canada yesterday as well.

I am flying my brother and his daughter here for June 10th and the flights are $89- 99 today. But I see what you mean about August. I also use tripadvisor and airfarewatchdog to keep track of different deals that are out there

Thanks for the heads up, Cruiseryyc! I know I signed up for the email list but didn't get a note about the sale - I guess they sent it out before I signed up yesterday. It's about $217 with taxes and fees on our date. I'll talk to my brother and see what we want to do.
