Hi..
I am going to Vancouver the first week of November and staying at Sutton Place..it looks fab..any suggestions for lunch/dinner and a great place to have a few drinks..

Well, Tahiti, you have a great bar in the Sutton, "Gerard's", and are a block or so away from Robson Street, where there are lots of good restaurants (Caffe de Medici) and okay restaurants with great atmosphere and bars (Joe Forte's, Cin Cin). You are also very close to Yaletown which has some really good restaurants (C's) and fun bars (Yaletown Brew Pub).

I always refer people to Vancouver Magazine, and this "issue" has a good article on outdoor dining (unfortunately, in November you'll be too late for that). www.vanmag.com

What kind of food do you like? A great place for a drink is Lift. It means "lift your wallet out of your pocket," but the view is great and is quite the scene. Another restaurant on the water is Nu. Food is great, view is fantastic. For seafood, "C"is fabulous - pricey, but fabulous. It's near Nu. Coast and Blue Water Cafe are also great. For tradition French, you can't be Le Crocodile. If you like Indian food, you have to go to Vij's. Vancouver has lots of fabulous restaurants. Lumiere is a place that folks talk about and has been written up in Gourmet, but there are lots of other great ones. The Sutton Place is in a great location and is a lovely hotel.

Thanks so much for your feedback on drinks and food! Love all types of food and was hoping for a good Indian or Thai restaurant but we are open to all.

If you like Indian food, you must go to Vij's. Unfortunately the restaurant doesn't take reservations, but there's a bar you can hang out it while waiting for your table(and they serve free snacks.) The trick with Vij's is to go early or consider it an adventure and hang out and people watch. If the lineup is too long, you can also eat at the bistro, Rangoli, next door. It's owned by the same fellow so the food is equally as good. It's just more casual.

There are a lot of good Thai restaurants in Vancouver including Sawasdee, Salathai & Montri's. Many are located on Main Street - a funky street about a 10 minute taxi ride from the Sutton Place (Don't walk) On Broadway at Main is a good Indian restaurant called Chutney Villa. It's not as trendy as Vij's, but has good food. Another restaurant called "Habit" is also located on Main St. I haven't eaten there yet, but my sister who is also a foodie, said it was one the best meals she's ever had. It's also a casual place, but the food is supposed to be divine and is served family style.

For tapas, try either Bin 941 (downtown) or Bin 942 (at Broadway & Granville.) Great food, but very noisy.
Cru, located near Bin 942 is also excellent.

You have lots of choices in lots of price ranges.

Vancouver Mag voted Bin 941 & 942 along with tapastree as best tapas..
Vancouver seems like a real Foodie town..Everyone here in San Diego loves Vancouver and rates its restaurants among the best in the world..

We used to go to Tapastree a lot a few years ago - really loved it then but haven't been for a few years. I'm sure it's still great.

If you do not go to Vij's you will miss a fabulous meal!

An excellent French restaurant just steps from the Sutton Place (on Smythe Street, between Burrard and Thurlow) is "Le Crocodile". Also "Cafe de Paris" at Denman and Alberni.

Vij's is superb. For more traditional Indian food, there are at least 4 Indian restaurants on Robson Street. The decor is somewhat dingy, but "A Taste of India" between Bute and Jervis would be my recommendation, especially the Chicken Korma.

A vote for Bin 941...great, clever food !

Another great place for Indian food is Akbar's Own Dining Lounge at 1905 West Broadway (Broadway is really 9th Ave). It's a place where we locals like to eat and the food is really superb. They have the best naan in the city., You'll definitely need a reservation for a Friday or Saturday night.It doesn't have the "hum" that Vij's have, but it's relaxing and the food and service is great.

Vij's is a must..bin 941 and Le Croc as well..thank's!
What is a local fav for breakfast?

Tomato Cafe (16th & Cambie), Barney's (Granville St close to Vij's) Sophie's Cosmic Cafe (4th & Arbutus), Sunshine Diner (Broadway & Trafalger), and Milestones (multiple locations) have great breakfasts.

I can't wait to go to all the wonderful restaurants that all of you have suggested!
