Fairmont Gold is just another name for the executive or club class level in other hotels. You get that extra pampering and perks that if you use you might feel you've got your money's worth. The rooms themselves are only slightly better than the regular ones if at all. I try and get these upgrades with points and only if I'm feeling very plush will I spend the extra if I can't get upgraded.

On the other hand I do recall when I took my son to Toronto & Montral when he was about 17 and we stayed at the Westin and Sheraton club levels. He was very impressed with the extras and I thought that made it worth it.

WOW!!!! To impress one of ours at the teen years... that is something! Kinda what I want to do.."blow his socks off".We have been traveling to tropic areas the past few years and he chose Vancouver, Tofino, and Whistler. Want to stay at wonderful locations (not business-minded properties) that will wither wow him with scenery, ammenities, or decor. Thanks for imput...is Whistler Chateau "the best" place to put him for March skiing to accomplish all of this?????

Chateau Whistler is pretty great but a bit isolated from the main village. My favorite place is the Westin Suites which rates among the top 10 resort hotels in the world but it really doesn't have the resort 'feel' of the Chateau.

Would you be talking about the Westin Resort and Spa in Whistler? I have the 2002 edition of Resorts and Great Hotels which has Chateau Whistler and the Westin Resort Whistler or the Pan Pacific Whistler in it. Where did you get your info for Top 10 Resorts?

I think it was Conde Nast that put the Westin Whistler Spa & resort in the top 10. If I'm not mistaken Chateau Whistler came pretty close as well.
