Eastern Canada, Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Quebec

Further to my earlier post, deciding on 8 day sightseeing tour to Eastern Canada.Since I travel solo, would be paying a single supplement which would leave my trip, almost the same price charged for double occupancy per person BUT their price would include R/T flights from LGA, Gatwick to Toronto.
I would book my flights from NY to Toronto to meet group at hotel on arrival but the supplement is hefty so trip would cost double amount paid p.p. with flights included.

I am experienced traveler and booked hotels in Europe and in US for many years and never paid a supplement. I am now considering my options. I looked at Lonely Planet site and was impressed at the many sightseeing day tours they offer so might consider doing this trip independently from Toronto. Would look at hotels and might be able to stay at same hotels used by Tour. If I decide to go to Quebec or Montreal looks like it won't be a problem booking day sightseeing trips.
I booked accommodations in Galway and Killarney on Lonely Planet site and was impressed with the places that were central and excellent locations,Thanks to all.

I am sure it is me but I am not quite clear what you are asking. It is very, very simple to visit Toronto, and perhaps Niagara Falls from there, then take the train to Ottawa (my wife did it in reverse this morning), then take the train to Montreal etc. You can see a lot in Ottawa without any tours or you can book some. The same in Montreal ... The train station is right in downtown Toronto, the same in Montreal, almost the same in Ottawa (a five minute drive and maybe $20 by taxi.)

Thank you. I wanted some feedback on whether it might be worth paying the land package price for the escorted bus tour or just booking flights and hotels and taking some nice day trips by tour bus. I traveled in most of Europe without a problem and did a lot of it on public public transportation. Was only in Montreal for a long weekend and we drove from NY returning via Vermont so did not use train or buses. I was not sure if Toronto, had a good public transportation system, so will look at flights, hotel prices in central location to be near transportation then make a cost comparison. It is good I can do some of the intercity journeys by train. The escorted tour would be well organized but the fact I would not be given price reduction for the R/T flight from London that I do not need and then having to pay a large supplement for the single occupancy makes me reconsider if I can get my trip organized. Your help is appreciated.

So I will offer one more general comment and then perhaps you will have specific questions at another time. Both Ottawa and Quebec City I would classify as walking cities. You may want to take a tour but you really don’t have to.Toronto and Montreal are much larger but if you don’t mind taking a tour, or the subway, or a taxi, you will have little trouble getting around.

As for between cities the Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City corridor is very heavily travelled. You can take the train or bus as you wish.

I wanted some comparisons from experienced travelers to Eastern Canada. I got estimates for escorted tour and stated how expensive it would be considering I only need a land package. I will compare prices when I get hotel rates and cost of flights. NO big deal, I might reconsider and return to California. Thanks.
