Planning tour of Eastern Canada

I had short visit to Montreal years ago, driving from New York returning via Vermont which we enjoyed.
I have not been to Toronto or any of the popular sightseeing areas. Trying to plan a trip to include Niagara Falls. Would spend 5 to 7 days taking day trips with overnight stops (2 nights) in some places. Would this be easy to plan without booking a tour? I have looked at several Eastern Canada escorted 7 day tours from Toronto most include Montreal for 2 nights. Some offer accommodations at popular hotels such as Marriott or Hilton chain which include breakfast. I would not need to return to Montreal and can take flights on Air Canada from local airports. If I decide doing trip independently (solo) taking public transportation from Toronto or some day bus tours to visit Niagara Falls, Quebec and other areas not to be missed would this be difficult? Would plan from mid June to early August.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.

The Niagara Falls to Toronto to Montreal to Quebec City is a great package tour that coordinates transportation, side tours, transports, hotels, some dinners, and an easy itinerary to follow... arranging so many cities and attractions can be very difficult on your own...

here's my vote for buying a package and letting someone else plan it.

Thank you for responding. I've been checking the itineraries offered by a few companies and flight to Toronto from LGA, NY is short. Not sure yet which tour I would choose, looking at Trafalgar but there are others. I traveled to many countries in Europe and had no difficulty making several stops without any difficulty, which resulted in savings, but have no knowledge of transportation routes in Canada. Appreciate your help.

Hi,
check out stm for the public transport in Montreal. Actually it is quite easy, especially going to Quebec and spending time there. I don't know if you are a tour person. But especially going to Quebec is quite easy and nice. Maybe I'd do a tour to Niagara Falls and check the other trip on my own. Some years ago we just rented a car for the Niagara Fall trip. Maybe you'll finde someone to share the costs.
Have a great time planning!

Thanks to all for responding. Any suggestions on tour groups that operate out of Toronto, visiting the scenic places I mentioned in first post? If there are companies that are popular with tourists, I can make contact. I would arrange my own flights and book the land package. Thanks.
