Rookie- It says that it doesn't take affect until Dec. 2006 - they are visiting Canada this summer.

The original post was from April 2002.

The more recent comments relate to the newly announced Passport requirements being phased in over the next 2 1/2 years for travel into and out of the US around the Western Hemisphere. Yes, for now US residents can still re-enter from Canada with just a birth certificate (or a recently expired Passport for that matter). In your comments you stated what has been true in the past with no recognition that the requirement will be changing. Rather than paraphrase, I referred you to the the US State Dept.'s official FAQ so that you could read for yourself "from the horse's mouth".
