There are no ferries between Seattle and Vancouver.

Do you mean Victoria? As noted in the previous post, no ferries between Seattle and Vancouver (no water to cross between the two).

Actually, yes.

Take one ferry to Victoria, either from Seattle or from Northern Washington State. Drive around Victoia, and then to one of two locations on Vancouver Island (where Victoria is) and take a ferry from Vancouver Island to either just north of the city of Vancouver, or just south.

Remember, however, that it is a lot esier to return the car to a rental company office back in the US than it is to leave the car in Canada.

Depends on exactly when you're traveling, but as a rule, reservations on the ferries from WA to Victoria (either the Coho via Port Angeles or the WA State Ferry via Anacortes) are a good idea, as are reservations on the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver.

Yes, reservations on the car ferry routes from WA to Victoria are a good idea as indicated above, but whether you'll absolutely *need* them depends on which route, when you're traveling, time of day, etc.

I do live in Seattle and travel frequently to Victoria and Vancouver.
