1 day in halifax - peggy's cove: hit or miss?

we are spending one day in halifax in mid/late october.

is it worthwhile to go out to peggy's cove for the morning? we do enjoy nature and scenic vistas, but it does seem like a lot of hassle just to see a lighthouse, albeit a beautiful scene from the pics....

in the afternoon, we plan to visit the citadel and a park, either point pleasant or the halifax public gardens.

i'm wondering if we should skip peggy's cove and spend more time in halifax, maybe at the maritime museum and another park.

thanks in advance for any advice.

Yes, you are making the correct call by skipping Peggy's Cove when you have such limited time. I would stick with Halifax and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with that choice at all.

The ten or fifteen minutes it takes to look around Peggy's Cove is not worth the trip. Stay in Halifax - it's quite nice.

Peggy's Cove was the only dissapointment of our fantastic holiday in NS earlier this year, far too touristy. Stay in Halifax theres loads to do, we loved the Citidel, Point Pleasant park and the museums, plus the farmers market on a Saturday.

We were at Peggy's Cove shortly after the plane crashed into the waters near there - other than the beautiful scenery that was magnificent for 20 minutes, that was the only interest the place held. Halifax is too nice to cut your day in half by driving to see rocks and the ocean.

thanks! i get the hint! i'm 99% sure we will skip it. we hope to see some of the fall foliage, and we are also traveling with a 16-month-old.

i think we'll stick to the public gardens and the citadel in the morning. point pleasant park in the afternoon, followed by the historic properties area. if time permits, we'll do the maritime museum as well.

that should give us a more leisurely day, and more flexible too if we need to take breaks with the little one. she is a good traveler, though, so she is up for anything!

thanks for all your help!

We´ve just returned from our second Nova Scotia trip this year. It was absolutely gorgeous!! You should definitely go to Peggy´s Cove. We skipped it in summer, but now there are only a few tourists and the landscape around the village is totaly amazing!!!!
Karen (Germany)
