Christmas in Sydney?
We may have an opportunity to spend Christmas and New years in Sydney
How hot is it at that time?
Is it very crowded ?
We visited Sydney in Sept 2006 and loved it (although it rained for 4 days)!

It'll probably be hot and humid, but...so what!
New Year in Sydney is fantastic - but beware - hotels in the city will gouge the life blood out of you for NYE and around that time.
Plenty happening, lots to see and do. The whole country is on holidays at that time. If you can do it, go for it!

We can stay in a private home
which makes it even more attractive.
The bummer is the airfare from eastern Canada : a fortune!
Our summers are hot and humid as well
- it is often over 35 ( with humidity
factored in) .

You should have a look at Air Berlin which goes into North America ( cannot remember where) and then see if they have a reasonable flight to Bangkok and then into Australia with either Air Asia, Jetstar, Tiger Air.

If you don't have to pay (much) for accommodation - go for it! Somewhere to stay is always the biggest cost of a trip - over about a week or so.
I live here - but love being here in December / January - never even think of travelling then. Why would you - when the mangoes are in season!

we sooo love Sydney and envy your climate ( being in Canada),
the beaches, boats, the life outdoors... If the airfare was not so high , I think we would be visiting every year !!!

we spent New year in Sydney and it was FANTASTIC. You have to book hotels WAY in advance (we booked in Feb) and NY Eve itself was busy but nothing too uncomfortable. Quite simply the best NY we have ever had.
BTW weather NY's eve was fab. 15 days before raining and 16/17c (brrrr)

Stay on for the New Year's Eve, and see the fireworkes and party with all others on the harbour. My American friends did so this year and were blown away by the atmosphere, the views and the sheer community fun of the night.
Not sure of you are travelling with children - there is an earlier 9 pm session of fireworks for them.

christmas in sydney can be hard to predict
it's been hot and beachy
then it's been quite overcast and dismal
of course it is crowded by aussie standards but it's never shoulder to shoulder here unless we're talking new years eve in some places
