Neil

It would have to be global cultural imperiallism as it is only in Australia that football is still called soccer. Even the USA has changed their league from the MLS (Major League Soccer) to MLF (Major League Football)

Great day for Aussie FOOTBALL.

Best player for Australia was Lucas Neil.
Best player for Croatia was Kalac.

Wow cards flying, triple yellow, rugby tackles, 1/2 Croatia was Australian and half Australia was Croatian. Maybe have to ask who the goalie was playing for ! lol.

Good TV. Great result for Aus.

I saw some of the game and to my untutored eye the ref appeared to be playing for Croatia.

Steve - OK, global cultural imperialism it is. It's still a Pommy game, though.

Its funny you should say that Neil

I have a Mexican mate whose dad is a coach of a professional team in Mexico. I don't think that either my mate or his dad rate English football at all. (Though my English cousin who emails me with WC updates may beg to differ). Their focus in on their southern neighbours in football, Argentina and Brazil.

Good luck to the Aussies in the next round. May Kewell keep his temper in check.

Aussies were absolutely screwed. Game was determined by referee and not players on field.

Shame on FIFA for losing control of officiating throughout the Cup.

Godd show anyway!

Yes Australia gave it almost everything they had, except in the final few mins they were quite negative, playing for the extra time I suspect, knowing that a few pairs of fresh legs against 10 Italians would do the job.

The jury is out on the penalty though, I personally don't think it was a foul.
The tackle had happened and the guy tripped over the Aussies body as he was lying there, if Italian wanted to stay up he could have done.

Refereeing in this tournament has been quite daft, almost evry tackle that hasn't resulted in winning the ball gets a yellow card, FIFA need to remember this is a contact sport, the only way to eliminate it is to reduce the amount of yellow cards issued and have a 15 min sin bin for those that dive or commit bad tackles.

Better luck next time Aussies, you did yourselves proud.
