where to stay

We are going to cairns/port douglas area in july ,for one week, with our 15 year old daughter and her friend. We were thnking of staying at the kewarra beach resort but wounder if anyone has any other suggestions . Possibly a self contained appartment in palm cove or port douglas. We're planning to use it as a base for day trips in the area. Any advise would be appreciated thanks

Hi weasel, if I had the choice it would definitely be Kewarra Beach Resort, with its rainforest, beach, tropical gardens, lagoon, wildlife. It may be a bit isolated for teenagers, although there's easy bus access into Cairns city. Nearby Trinity Beach also worth considering, lots of self-contained apartments as well as resorts. All are good bases for day trips.

I would suggest Palm Cove - there are heaps of apartments for rent there and good public transport should you need to get into Cairns. It is only a 40 minute drive to Port Douglas as well.

Thanks Pat and Tropical gal. Kewarra doesn't have the room I was looking at {there all booked{. I was wondering if anyone has any info on the Roydon or Sea Changes at Trinity beach. These are both apartment rentals that look pretty good but then looks can be deceiving. I was looking at the Oasis in Palm cove but it is $50-100 more per night. Is it worth it? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.By the way if you ever have any questions about Canada I'll try to return the favour

We loved Palm Cove and the Oasis, it is lovely, the apartments are fabulous.
Oasis has a tennis court and a great pool with spa at one end of it.
There is a tavern across the road which I understand is under new management and now treats its customers very well.

I would go to PC at a moments notice and the Sophistication of the resort is something a 15yr old girl would appreciate, I know my daughter would love it now.

Enjoy
