Transportation from Sydney Airport to Circular Quay
What is the best (least expensive) way to get from the Sydney Airport to our Hotel, the Menzies on Carrington St, I'm told it is near Circular Quay. This is after a 14 hour plane trip from LA, so am also looking for painless.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We are not renting a car and will be using public transportation while we are in Sydney - four days- and of course need to get back to the airport.
Thanks in advance.
Maureen

You have several choices 1/ Airport minibus. costs about $8 but does drop people off at other hotels before your depending on where people are going. 2/ Train to Circular Quay. I think the cost is about $12 but the as long as you do not have to change at Central Station it is pretty quick. 3/ Taxi, charge about $25 depending on the time of day - is the quickest method.

Hot off the press today is the news that fares on the train trip from the Airport to Central Railway will rise to $13.60 one way and $20.40 return from the International Terminal on Monday next.
For Menzies Hotel if you do choose the train you would be best to alight at Wynyard Station as the hotel is actually above that train station, going to Circular Quay would entail quite an uphill walk - not painless!

the airport train goes "direct" to wynyard via museum etc Wynyard is the most convenient staion for the menzies.
You could get a public transportation pass at the aiport train station if you really wanted to.
After a long flight for cost and convenience get a cab.

Hi Maureenm,
With 14 hours travel & probably more than 1 bag, I wouldn't hesitate a nanosecond. Get a cab. It'll probably cost you $25. As you say "we", remember the cab fare will cover up to 4 pax whereas all the other options are per person, so the cab will probably be cheaper as well as better.
There's a cab rank right outside the Menzies (in Carrington St.) so the return journey can be just as painless.
Enjoy your trip

My family and I used the airport minibus roundtrip from the Sydney airport to the Menzies Hotel (great location). Very easy; booth near the exit of airport. We came in on QF from LAX. Our rooms were not ready. Try to get a room facing front. Back alley has gargage truck every morning. You can walk to Circular Quay, the Rocks, Darling Harbor and many sights from the hotel.
Have a great time.
