Tassie in April

Hi... we are considering a ten say holiday in Tassie in late April. We have seen some of the West Coast so this time we are contemplating the Tasman Penisula and the East Coast. We enjoy good food, walking and photography. We'd appreciate any tips regarding:
itinerary ideas - the 'must do' spots
Great restaurants
Photography suggestions
Any good day tours we could join

Thank you!

Well, it's been several years now, but on our second visit to TAS we explored the Binalong Bay/Bay of Fires area and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Very dated now, but my trip report from that visit might give you a few ideas.

We've only been to northern and southern Tasmania and not the east coast but Freycinet and Maria Island are on my future wish list.

We were in Hobart, the Huon Valley and Bruny Island. I don't think I ever wrote up anything but here are my photos from that trip share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0AZNnDlk5YtmbLdA

Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Hey Patty, I'd love to hear any suggestions you have for the Huon Valley and Bruny Island - touristy things, good places to eat / photograph - anything really!! I'll go look at your photos now!

In the Huon Valley, we enjoyed meals at Red Velvet Lounge in Cygnet and Aqua Grill in Franklin. We walked around Huon Bush Retreats (they allowed non-guests on their tracks). Other than that we mostly drove around to the various towns, enjoyed the scenery and did some wine tasting. Some places we wanted to visit like the Wooden Boat Centre in Franklin were closed because it was winter.

We loved the cottage we rented on Bruny http://parnella.com/bruny-island/ We stopped at Grandvewe Cheese on our way to the ferry terminal in Kettering. On Bruny we had good meals at the Hotel Bruny. We stopped at Bruny Island Cheese as well and wanted to go to Get Shucked but again that was closed due to the season. We did more wine tasting on Bruny. Our favorite walk was at Fluted Cape. You can see white wallabies in Adventure Bay. They tended to congregate at dawn and dusk near the grounds of Adventure Bay Eco Village which was defunct at the time of our visit. I don't know if the property is still closed. I don't know if you'll be able to see fairy penguins in April but The Neck is a beautiful spot even if there are no penguins. Nice viewpoint at Mt Mangana too.

Have fun planning!
