Tasmainia trip in early Nov

Me and my partner plan to go to Tas for 5 days. Arrive and depart both in Launceston. As we only stay for 5 days, we thought probably we focus on east coast, plan to go to St Helen, Coles Bay/ Freycinet, Port Arthur, then Hobart & back to Launceston.

But we do not have any idea how long we should spend for each places....
or where should we stay overnight....

We interested in food & wine tasting, and scenic drive.....not so much historic side...Does it mean east coast drive suit us most?

Would anyone please give us some directions & suggestion..

Thanks heaps!!!

K.C.

Port Arthur is full on history and would take a full day. Maybe re-assess that part of the trip.

Swap it with a trip down to Mount Field National Park for a quick visit and perhaps a circuit of the Huon Valley. This is both scenic and a foodies trail and both can be done from Hoabrty as side trips.

One night northern east coast, one night around Bicheno or Coles Bay. Two nights Hobart and one night Launceston.

Could you change your flights so you arive in one city and depart another?

Thank you for your reply, Tassiewister.

We may follow your advise, go to Huon Vally instead.

Unfortunately we cannot change the ticket as it is the discount ticket. Once I start planning the trip, we know we should both arrive and depart at the same city. Pity that we cannot change the ticket....

Our dosmetic flight is around 9pm on 13th Nov. So will that be too much if we drive back from Hobart to Launceston around 5pm?
I saw from the brochure that trip take around 2.5 hrs.

Will the schedule be too tight?

You are packing in a lot for 5 days but its doable. Drive from Launceston to the east coast ( wish we know where you are coming from tho') staying overnight at Coles Bay perhaps. From there go to Port Arthur which is a full day and then plan to stay there for the night and take one of the Ghost trips.
Drive from there back to Hobart and center yourself somewhere and do a trip of the Huon valley, taking in the Tahune Air Walk, Hastings caves perhaps and drives around the Huon River waterside road which has beautiful views. Have a look at the Forest

Sorry, pressed something: Forest Timber Shop in Geeveston which has some wonderfully made and interesting crafty things made from the special Tasmanian woods. This is seperate from the village shops by the way and I may have got the name wrong but as I am due to write my trip report on 6 weeks in South Tasmania soon I will find the right name. I will also check up on the nice place to stay in Port Arthur which is by the water and really nice too.

I think we probably need to review our itineray.
But based on all your useful suggestions, it will definitely make it easier to us.

We come from Sydney, so I guess if some of the places we cannot visit this time. There's still other opportunities to travel back to Tassie again. Guess next time we'll do it better!

Liz! What is the ETA for your trip report? We'll be in the southern part of Tasmania in mid-October and would love to have the benefit of your report!

Sometime this week Betsy when my husband is out riding his bike for an hour or so and does not want me to help in the garden or shopping or whatever. I keep getting notes written on black paper with a gold pen with messages ending in " from your loving Internet Widow"

Uh-oh, Liz. You're just going to have to speak with your husband about your priorities. Make sure he knows there are several of us who are hanging on your every word.
