Sunshine Coast - where to stay?
Hi everyone. We're escaping from NZ for a week in June!
There's so many nice places between Caloundra & Noosa.
We want to blob out, walk the beach, explore the region and stay in a nice, mid-range resort/hotel (away from the madding crowds?).
Marcoola Beach looks promising. What do you think?

Merv, we're in Brisbane and go up to the Sunshine Coast a lot. Our latest favourite spot is Dicky Beach, Caloundra. It has a lovely "natural" style patrolled beach, with its own small shipwreck (the beach is named after it). Just across the road there's a nice apartment block called "Portobello" which does have its own website, so you could Google it, I'm sure. Some of their apartments have ocean views. Downstairs from that are a few small cafes, with the mandatory fish n chip shop. There's a surf life-saving club behind the beach where you can get an inexpensive meal. You can get the local bus or hire a care to explore further afield. Dicky has that feel of the kind of beach holidays you had as a kid, but still with nice modern facilities, and it's quiet.
Marcoola is OK, but a bit close to the airport and (only my personal opinion) Dicky is nicer.
Also, the next beach north from Dicky is Currimundi, which has not only a surf beach, but around the corner a very pretty creek and there's nice walks along the creek edge.

Twin Waters Resort is run by Accor (Novotel) - it is on a man made lagoon which has lots of water sports - sail boats, canoes etc included in the price. It is also right on a great beach which is not packed. It has three restaurants.
There are villas right on the lagoon. We stayed there for a week last year.

Caloundra is a great spot and we often head up for a few days, a copule of places we have stayed and enjoyed are LePromenade which is very quiet, adjacent to the beach and absolute waterfront overlooking Bribie Island. Rolling Surf at Kings Beach is also great, the top floor apartments have a bbq, cold spa and personal sauna on the roof deck, it is beachfront with fantastic views. If you like a little more action then have a look at Mooloolabah, we have stayed at Landmark Resort, again the top floor rooms have a hot tub on the roof deck and there is an excellent variety of restaurants at the door step. Marcoola is also nice but unluess you are happy to be a captive audience for dining you will have to drive for any real dining choice. All the beaches from Caloundra to Noosa are fantastic, other quiet spots are Alexander Headland and Sunshine Beach.

Hi there -- we just got home from a week on the Sunshine Coast and stayed at Twin Waters in Mudjimba. As the other writer says, it's a nice spot and very quiet. It's a bit off the track for restaurants etc so you will need a car. I think all the units have kitchen facilities though. We loved the beach -- very peaceful but not much for swimming -- just surfing and splashing.
Hope this gets you in time!
