Barbados-Hotels by the Gap?

This will be our 4th family vacation to the Caribbean during Christmas / New Years. Our first two years were at Divi/Tamarijn in Aruba. Great beach! Recently we stayed at the Jolly resort in Antigua...Even better beach!, and the kids are now hooked on Hobie Cats. This year we chose Barbados. The Lawrence Gap area looks like fun. Which hotel near the Gap is on the longest, and/or widest stretch of sand? Do they offer Hobie Cats? (A poster elsewhere has said that the beaches to the south have gotten wider recently...any comments on this?) Thanks!

Best beach is at the old Casuarina Beach Hotel. About to reopen with mods as Almond Resorts' Casuarina Beach. Hopefully they haven't cut down the grounds by too much. The beach is by far the best on the SW coast, wide and long.

Thanks xkenx. I tried to get information regarding when they would be open through Hotelrentalgroup.com, and they are not "taking reservations there for the foreseeable future", So I'm open to other suggestions. I'll keep checking on the Casuarina. The beach sounds like what I'm looking for.

We really liked Coral Sands on Sandy Beach in Worthing The beach is very nice and not touristy. The suites have a sitting area two double beds and a kitchen. Don't know about Hobie Cats but there are two smorkel/scuba shops on the beach. About a 15 min walk to St Lawrence Gap.

How about the Divi Southwinds on Dover Beach (www.divisouthwinds.com) - we are going in April but have not been before. You must book a beachfront suite as the pool/garden view rooms are being renovated. Apparently the Southern Palms on Dover Beach is nice too. You can see a virtual tour of Dover Beach at the Divi website.
