Special type of lodging in Western Australia - Southwest coast
Hi, I know there are loads of motels, hostels, etc if I drive from Perth down to the Southwest coast of WesterN Australia...
But am interested to stay in unique places that will give me, my wife and especially, my 20 month old son a special experience in our next holiday. Like a place in the middle of the forest (we once stayed in a small stone more than 100 year old cottage in Kangaroo island); a place overlooking the Coast ; etc
We're driving from Perth to Margaret River then Albany then back to Perth. For 7 days.
Any suggestions for unique type of accomodations ? Hopefully, around AUS$100 a night...
Thanks
Eric

Eric -
I have no doubt that there are many unique places to stay on your route, but finding them will probably require some research.
This forum isn't particularly active when it comes to Western Australia.
How about staying on the grounds of the only fully operational flour producing windmill in Australia?

If you find yourselves needing accomodation between Denmark and Albany, you might want to consider Cape Howe Cottages - they're located on a private nature reserve, but A$135 - up. I've got my eye on this place if/when we return to the area.

Hi there
Put up a search for these two places,
Walpole and Pemberton both in the south west and both should come up with accommodation in the karri forests.
You could also do the overhead forest walk, high above the treetops, friends go there a lot from Perth and rave about it. Unfortunately when I was there in 2005 it was too wet for me to do, raining heavily.

there are some wonderful properties in this area, but you´ll find that you´re looking at 130 dollars and more a night. many have minimum stays of three night (7 during school holidays). take a look at the visitor information www´s for margaret river, denmark and walpole. denmark is still a bit of a bargain in comparison to other areas in the south west. good luck.

How about Taunton Farm at Cowaramup near Margaret River? This is a caravan park with cottages, animals and a children's playground.
