Helloe Fodorites - I've heard that the Qantas Aussie Pass is a great deal, allowing you to fly to multiple Australian destinations at a discounted price. However, in reviewing the Aussie Pass details on the Qantas web site, it appears the only way to get this pass is if you fly Qantas from the US to Australia, is this correct? Since we're using miles to fly to Sydney on United, I was hoping I could buy the Aussie Pass to travel within Australia. Am I missing something? Thanks.

glorib226, yes, I believe the discounted domestic legs are only available in conjunction with the international potion, which is the point of the promotion.

Pity you have to fly UA ... in more ways than one, as flying Qantas is a much nicer experience, but all may not be lost.

The domestic market is highly competitive and the three main domestic airlines - Qantas, Jetstar (Qantas' budget subsidiary) and Virgin Blue - all engage in regular bouts of discounting and there are often excellent bargains to be had. I suggest you go to their websites and sign up for their email alerts once you've nailed down an itinerary with firm dates.

Allow adequate time for transfers, especially with Jetstar, whose 30-minute check-in time is quite unforgiving of latecomers.

yes, you're correct, you can only use the Pass in conjunction with Qantas international flights; but as Neil says, depending on where you're going from Point A to B, you might do just as well with Jetstar and Virgin Blue.

Virgin Blue offers an airpass within Australia that does not require the US-Australia leg which Qantas does. I have no personal experience using it, but you can check out the details at: http://www.virginblueairpass.com/AboutUs/index.htm
