Fly or Bus within Australia

I am heading down under and wanted to know if it was worth it to buy an airline travel pass? Any suggestions?

My experience was that it was cheaper to book off the airlines internet sites before I left the states. The Boomerang pass wasn't as good of a deal as they make you believe. Try the Qantas & Virgin Blue websites!

Two of us just returned from Oz. We flew Qantas from Syndey to Cairns to Darwin on to Perth and Back to Sydney. I went onto Auckland for four days.Flying was fabulous, we had window seats, and a really good map of Oz,so that we could make out the rivers, towns etc.from the air. We booked through our travel agent from Canada and the flight prices seemed to be the same when we were in OZ. Have a fabulous time.People are so friendly there.

Hi Kathy,
I agree with Christina. I found booking over the internet to be quite a bit cheaper than purchasing a Boomerang Pass. I was in Australia in July so I'm not sure if the bargains I found were because it was winter or if the airlines consistently discount on the 'Net.

Debbie

Kathy

It's a time, money and preference thing.

Australia is about as large as mainland USA, but with a tiny population.

Getting from place to place by bus can be very tedious and time consuming, but it is one way to see a lot of the country.
Flying is expensive, and the best deals are usually those available via the airline web sites. Compare the ecost with the cost of an airline pass.

Then it's a matter of deciding what you want to see, in what time, and how much you want to travel, rather than being there, and what you can afford.

Have fun!
