One night in Sydney?

My husband and I are flying from AKL to SYD on the 28th. We will miss the conecting flight to LAX. So, we will be able to explore and enjoy Sydney for one evening!!! I visited Sydney in 2002, my husband has never had the chance to visit.

Any good recommendations where to stay? Also, what do you recommend for transportation to and from the airport?

Thanks for all your information you can provide!!!!!
We just found out about our flights. so, I have not had a chance to research!!!!
Thanks, Marie

A taxi to downtown is the best way. I am not sure of the current fare, but it is not too expensive. There is also a train service from the airport. Where you stay depends a lot on your budget, but I find the Intercontinetal, the Westin or the Sofitel to be in great areas. The Grace hotel www.gracehotel.com.au is also in a fantastic position for a short stay. Check www.wotif.com for all Sydney hotels and prices.

The train to downtown is easy, quick, cheap and stops at St. James Stop in Hyde Park - approximately 150 yards from the entrance to the Sheraton on the Park.

Worth it even if you have luggage.

Well there are three. Aria, Guillaume at Benelong (Opera House) or Cafe Sydney all with spectacular views. Google names for their websites.

Ditto on Sheraton on the Park (although it's a bit of a hike to Circular Quay)...Four Seasons or Shangri-La are expensive but closer to Opera House and the Rocks...and Cafe Sydney is great (get a table on the balcony if it's avail)...Rockpool is another great restaurant in the Rocks...

I think SoTP is a nice walk to Circular Quay, but to each their own.

You might try and look at Fish at the Rocks website, it's a very nice, local-type place that's easy to get to, comfortable, not too expensive - and goes nicely with a pre-dinner bev at the Lord Nelson.

Best, Dave

Hi Marie,

If you can afford it, a hotel in the Rocks or Cirqular quay area is recommended.

This will give you the opportunity to the best that Sydney CBD has to offer. e.g. harbour bridge, opera house.

Thanks for all the information on such a short notice!!! I am glad we will be "stranded" in Sydney for a night,

I have been to Lord Nelson, I was planninng on going back for a beverage!!!

I will let you know how it goes, our budget will depend on how much we blow in New Zealand!!

Stay in the Shangri-La -its fab!Get a harbour/Opera House room!
Dont eat in their rooftop restaurant though as we found it very disappointing. So many other good places to go!
