we will be in australia from May25th thrrough june 7th we are attending the rotary convention. My question is we were thinking of doing a one day lizard island tour through draintree travel. They fly you out of cairns for a one day trip to lizard island. GO over the reef and then back over the rainforest. It sounds like an awesome day. Has anyone experienced this. How was it. I have heard that lizard island it the best for viewing and the least crowded. The other question is the sounds of silence dinner in the outback. Should we do it? How much does it cost and was it worth it. Anyhelp you can give would be appreciated. Thanks Bruce

Beware that if you're not staying at the P&O resort on Lizard they will not let you on the resort's property. You can fly into the airfield and you will have access to some of the beaches but not where the resort owns it. The manager, Steve, is a real pain in the ass!

I would be doing a boat trip out to the reef and not going on a plane trip. I paid for one of these for my husband's birthday and was very disappointed. How long have you got in and around that area because you may like to think about a 3 - 4 small boat trip which takes in islands, reefs, and everything else and is really nice. Leaves Cairns and arrives in Townsville

Liz,<BR> We arrive in port douglas on a wednesday afternoon and leave early saturday morning. On that friday we want to do Kurandi. So that only leaves Thursday. I was told that lizard island is the nicest of all the islands and has the best snorkling and that the owner of Daintree travel is very imformative and really show you the reef first hand and then takes you up to Cape York and over the rainforest on your way back. You get to spend 6 hours on the beach and snorkle and you get a nice lunch. I was told that most of the islands near cains and pd are very crowded with people and the water isn't as clear as it is on Lizard Island. The cost of the trip is 250 US dollars a person for the entire day. If we go see a Broadway show in Manhattan that costs us 100 US dollars for a two hour show so I didn't think that this was a bad price. I would like to hear more from you. Bruce,<BR><BR>JUST GOT BACK FROM australia (oct 17-26th) and DID THE DAY TRIP TO LIZARD ISLAND!!! IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!!!<BR><BR>I would have paid more to do it...it was absolutely spectacular and ironically enough I just e-mailed Greg this morning (the pilot for daintree air @www.daintreeair.com). There was one other little plane on the &quot;runway&quot; when we landed. Greg not only flew us there but walked us through the area, explained the floral and fauna (very informative) guided us on the most incredible snorkel trip i've ever been on (absolutely untouched!) - we saw a 6 foot+ reef shark!!! and then he served us a beatiful meal etc. etc... can't say enough about the company and greg himself. and no, he doesn't take you to the resort. but who cares about the resort? you're on a beach WITH NO ONE ELSE all day. it was fabulous. it was like survivor but with all the food and water you need! hope this helped! <BR><BR>p.s. if you do go with daintree air, please tell june and greg there that &quot;darin and julie&quot; say g'day!!
