Other ones I use are Trip Advisor and Virtual Tourist for Australia. For Thailand I use Asia Web Direct. I find all forums are useful and have some good contributors. These are the best ones I've found - including Fodors of course!

Tina beat me to it in mentioning TripAdvisor. TripAdvisor has a large contingent of British posters, whereas Fodor's has a large contingent of American posters.
When it comes to Calgary specifically, there are more Calgary residents who post at TripAdvisor. I like that, because people who pose questions are provided with a good variety of advice.
Interestingly enough, when it comes to the province nextdoor to me, British Columbia, Fodor's has more BC residents providing answers to questions than TripAdvisor does.

From time to time people mention AOL's travel forum, but I've never tried it, because you have to pay to join.
Australia's excellent travel information website, which I find useful for its Map Maker and other features, has a forum called Trip Talk, but I've never participated in it.

In Fodor's posts I've sometimes seen people referring to the Insight forum. I gather this is a forum that is frequented by people who go on escorted tours, but I've never visited it.
Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree forum attracts mostly budget and adventure travellers. I look at it only occasionally. It's a really good forum if you want to go to a less travelled destination.

I've seen Fodor's posters referring to a forum called Flyer Talk. I gather this is a forum where people discuss he optimum use of frequent flyer points, but I have never visited it.

Slow Talk is a forum where most (but not all) of the members believe in "slow travel." This means that they stay mostly in self-catering rental accommodation, usually for a week or more at a time. The rental can be a house, an apartment, a canal boat or whatever. That forum has lively and detailed participation in discussions about Italy, France, Spain and the United Kingdom, but has little discussion about the rest of the world.

Frommer's has a website with good information about various destinations. However, while it has a few good contributors, I find the pace of discussions in its Australia, Africa and Canada forums to be very slow indeed. It's Europe forum may be livelier, but I haven't visited it.

I believe there also are discussion forums that are specifically about cruises.
Oh yes, I nearly forgot, there is an excellent forum called Open Roads Forum for people who camp in motor homes, campervans, trailers (caravans) and tents in North America.

tropo: here's another one for you. Spam is always a problem on public newsgroups like these, but there are good contributions nonetheless.

Hello:
I have a couple that are not really specific to Australia or New Zealand but there are some specific threads.
1) Cruise Mates. A cruise specific board but has a thread on Australia & New Zealand.
2) Cruise Critic. A cruise specific board but has a thread on Australia & New Zealand.
4) Travel Talk Online. Is mostly geared to the Caribean but has some topics that maybe useful.
5) Yahoo groups may also be a place to search. I haven't done a search on Australia nor New Zealand yet but I'll be planning a trip in the next year or so.

I just didn't realise how many other travel chat websites there were. Thanks everyone, I have peaked into a few of them already. I always find interesting tips & advise on these travel boards, especially, if I am visiting another country for the first time. We are going back over to London again, this year, and whilst there we will chill out for a week on the greek island of Samos (self contained apartment in a greek fishing village). I haven't visited Greece before, so these travel chat boards, including Fodors, has given a lot of information.
(eg. accommodation, food, wine, weather, etc)
