Milford/Doubtful Sound

Okay, which is better Milford or Doubtful sound? We will be there late December so I know crowds may be a factor. Also do you reccommend booking a coach in advance?

Hi, Etcheverry,
I have only visited Milford Sound which was great. However, I have friends who have been to both who find Doubtful Sound even more stunning. Certainly book a coach in advance.

Having been to both last year, I can assure you they are both great - you can't go wrong either way. I would definitely book a trip in advance, and if you have enough time, try to do an overnight cruise on either sound. Doubtful Sound is harder to get to, so there are fewer crowds. Also, I saw more wildlife on Doubtful Sound than Milford Sound. But Mitre Peak on Milford Sound is an incredible sight. I went to both sounds with Real Journeys (Fiordland Travel).

I found these answers very helpful. It sounds like doing both cruises are a good idea if we have time. Is there an advantage to doing an overnight cruise? Is it just for the joy of the cruise, or is there more wildlife first thinkg in the morning, or does the overnight cruise go further? I'm trying ot decide what to do. Also, if I do both Sounds, and decide to to 1 overnight and 1 day time cruise, which would be better to do overnight?
Thanks for any help. Etcheverry, sorry for hijacking your post!!!

Kodi -

While I wanted to do an overnight, I wasn't able to work it into my schedule. From the websites, the overnights give you a lot more time on the Sounds, including time to kayak, etc.
