Killcare/Bouddi Nat Park/Brisbane Water

We are thinking of a few days in this area as something a bit different from Sydney. Is anyone familiar with the area and hikes in the national park? We won't be hiring a car!

This is a great spot, but not too easily accesible by public transport. I don't recall too much in the way of accommodation, either, but I can check it out for you if you wish.

I've stayed there a couple of times. People tend to either own their own holiday homes or rent via the local real estate agent usually for a min of one week. There is a bed & breakfast place there also. Best bet is to contact the real estate agent (sorry I can't remember the name) who may also send local flyers to you re: what to do, where to go etc. Beware school holidays book out well in advance.

Great location. Certainly worth persevering. Maybe hire a car.

There is a camping ground at Killcare on the edge of Bouddi National Park. The B&B (can't remember it's name) is on the road to the camp ground. See:

http://www.whereis.com.au/yp_search/result.jhtml?searchId=103406436842722167&_DARGS=%2 Fyp_search%2Fresult.jhtml.3

Here are some contacts which may prove helpful:

Killcare Real Estate

ADDRESS
2 Killcare Rd
Killcare Beach, NSW, 2257
Australia
Ph: (02) 4360 1101

Mary McKinney Real Estate Pty Ltd ADDRESS
60 Araluen Drv Killcare, NSW, 2257 Australia
Ph: (02) 4360 2222

We rented previously through Mary McKinney Real Estate. I think they have more properties on their books.

If you are looking to go somewhere by public transport, how about catching the bus to Palm Beach then ferry to Patonga or the Basin? Both have camping grounds but the Basin has only an amenities block but no shops or houses. From there you can hike (via a dirt road)up to the aboriginal engravings quite close to the main road to West Head inside KuRingGai Chase National Park.

Alternatively, Patonga is a lovely little village with a great little general store where the locals gather (on Fridays for a beer). From Patonga you can walk around the headland and through Brisbane Waters National Park to Pearl Beach.

Here's another site which may prove helpful:
http://www.visitnsw.com.au/scripts/r...ON,pc=LOCABOUT

Thanks Everyone,
I have been in touch with a b&b in Killcare. They have kindly offered to pick us up at the train station. From your responses I feel sure we will enjoy a few days of relaxation. We are renting a car for a week on the Great Ocean Road but driving on the 'wrong' side is a bit stressful! We do prefer public transport where possible. From my research I did get the impression that this spot was out of the way - just wanted to be sure it was a nice place to be stranded for a few days!
Cheers!
