Kangaroo Island accommodation

I tried to book at room for Nov. 5-7 at the Ozone Hotel in Kingscote, but it is fully booked for one of them. I'd appreciate recommendations of medium-priced hotels or B&Bs on K.I. We will be arriving in Kingscote midday by plane and departing two days later in the late afternoon by ferry from Penneshaw. We are intending to rent a car to use while on the island.

Thanks!

I'd also appreciate a general recommedation of the best part of the island to try to stay, given our arrival, departure, and transportation plans. We hope to see as much as possible while there.

Thanks!

AS i mentioned in an earlier post we are due to stay at the Ozone Hotel in October as part of a tour so there was no other option.
However, in doing some research I have discovered two different web sites which have some good information and might be of use to you.

Has anyone stayed at the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat? It has gotten very good reviews and is right next to the national park (which we would like to visit), but is otherwise in a rather remote location and one might be captive to eating only there (though the food sounds very good). Most of the other interesting-sounding lodging options seem to be in American River. Is this a good place to stay? Or would it be better to stay in Kingscote?

I see a number of postings about K.I. (mostly regarding whether it is worth going there), but very little specific information about things to see and do and places to stay and eat.

Thanks!

A few years back, we stayed at the Kangaroo Island Seaview Hotel in Penneshaw. It is ideally located, being walking distance from the ferry and almost adjacent to the viewing site for fairy penguins. I think we ate at the hotel, but there are restaurants nearby, although Penneshaw is not a big town. You should get a guidebook to decide what you want to see on the island, as there is much to take in, especially viewing wildlife, both land and sea. My advice is to concentrate on the parks and undeveloped areas, as the town are small and generally not noteworthy. We thought Kangaroo Island was one of the highlights of our trip to Australia.

Thanks, therenaissanceman. Would you recommend the Kangaroo Island Seaview Hotel in Penneshaw? We hope to see the main sights in all of the different parts of the island, and because they are so spread out, we are unsure about which would be the best place to stay. We would like to stay the same place both nights. We have plenty of time after arriving (by air, in Kingscote) and before leaving (by ferry, from Penneshaw) to see things and get to/from the place where we are staying.

I was able to get one night at the Ozone and one night at the K.I. Wilderness Retreat, and decided to stay at each of them (despite an initial desire not to have to repack and move). I'm tentatively planning to skip the northern part of the island because there seems to be so much to see and do in the south. Are there any must-sees in the north that should make me reconsider this plan?

Thanks to everyone who has helped me with K.I. plans. I'm getting very excited about going there.
