Kangaroo Island is remarkable - and is also known as the 'zoo without fences'. You don't mention how long you will be staying on Kangaroo Island but if at all possible I would suggest at least a 2 day/1 night tour. This will achieve several things for you, most importantly you will be assured of maximizing your time and what you see on the Island. Flying to Kangaroo Island on day 1 then returning on day 2 via a ferry/coach combination (or vice versa) also gives you a different perspective and allows you to also experience the Fleurieu Peninsula, on the mainland enroute back to Adelaide. Even though you can get rental cars on Kangaroo Island I would not recommend it as much of the Island is rich in both natural flora and fauna, which you want to be both sure to see, but also will want to protect for future generations. In regards to accomodation options, if your budget allows for it I would recommend a guest house or lodge style experience; this allows you to get a unique local feel on the island and is also a great chance to try some of the epicurean delights that Kangaroo Island is known for. You will love Kangaroo Island and Adelaide, and especially Australia. Safe travels. [email protected]

Hello - both the Lookout and Stranraer Homestead are great options, but I would lean towards Stranraer for the overall experience that you will have, including great dining. You mention that you love animals and given that there are 4 of you in your group I would strongly suggest that you book a small private tour - you will get great value and an unmatched experience. Not only will you see the wildlife, but the spectacular landscapes that Kangaroo Island is also known for. Doing this also allows you to get a great price, as you can 'package' everything together, including flights, transfers, accomodation and touring - and will all be customized to suit your groups interests and needs, and ulitmately makes your day flexible as you can decide as a group as the day progresses what you want to do etc. I hope this helps and if you need some examples of package options just let me know! Lisa I would be interested in what options there are that might include everything. I am working with an agent but also doing some things on my own. Have you heard of the 2 Night Kangaroo island Wanderer? Also, do you know anythign about KI wilderness Retreat?

Hello - I am happy to help and understand that the relationship with an agent is an important one! I have heard of the 2 night Wanderer package and I when possible always recommend that spending a couple of nights is the best way to truly experience Kangaroo Island. I am familiar with Kangaroo Island Wilderness Retreat and it is likewise a great option; nestled in a beautiful bush setting and known also for the great food and wine pairings it offers. The important thing to remember is that you can tweak any 2 night package to change out the accommodation to suit your needs. I can give you some options that would suit your dates and accommodation choices.
