Hotel in Auckland

We are going to be in Auckland for two nights and one day before we leave to tour NZ in a camper for three weeks. We would like to be centrally located in Auckland to see sights, resturants, etc. I have been reading tour books and cannot figure out the best place to stay. We would like to pay under 200 New Zealand dollars per night.

We stayed at Quay West Suites, which was central and excellent. However, it is more than NZ200 for one couple. We were 2 couples, got the 2 BR, 2Bath suite for NZ175 each. A terrffic deal!

You can get great info on wotif.com.

You should know that the rates you get by calling or emailing the hotel may be less than the rates on their websites.

Hi there

Have not stayed there but certainly have drunk there a few times. Not a bad selection of bars. Reasonably friendly atmosphere.

The accomodation prices are amongst the best you will get for downtown Auckland.

One thing to consider is that if you are staying there on a Friday, Saturday or even Sunday there will be a fair bit of street noise likely to rise up from Albert Street.

Hope this assists a bit

Steve

We stayed at the New President; it's about half a block off Queen St. in downtown Auckland. They are geared to business travelers, so all their rooms have kitchen facilities.

We had a two-bedroom suite (they upgraded us from the studio we had reserved) with a full kitchen and laundry facilities. Even though it was just Mr. Pickle and me, it was really nice to have all that room to spread out and repack before we left for home the next day.

We booked at the Shakespear and we are staying there mid week. They promised us the quietest rooms - I'll let you know if they were really quiet. Should be able to get some good beer!

I hope that your stay at Shakespeare Hotel is as you like it, and not a comedy of errors.

Of course, my comment may be much ado about nothing.

We also stayed at the New President a couple years ago - it's just down the street a block or two from the Sky Tower - very reasonable rates. Not sure what the rates are now, but back then it was definitely under $200 NZ.

We had the 2 bedroom suite, and it was quite roomy. Not a real fancy hotel, but perfectly fine.
