Has anyone heard of Yaukuve Island Resort?

I found this new resort while searching for a place to stay in Fiji. Has anyone heard of this resort or stayed here?

I don't know. I emailed them and have not gotten a response.

I've emailed them several times over the last few months as well...no reply.

They stopped updating their construction diary a long time ago - perhaps their project went under?

If not, I hope their lack of replies is not indicative of their outlook toward customer service.

Well, I finally got a response from the resort and all they said was that the resort will be open by Feb 07 (when I plan to tavel there). I responded and asked them if the have any updated information, so if I get a response I will let you know.

Resort construction in Fiji is notoriously slow. I have never in all of my 20 years travelling there heard of a resort opening within 12-18 months of planned. According to their website they started construction in Oct 2003 and planned to be open in "603" days - so lets say that's 20 months - so they originally planned to open June 05 and are already running 9 months late. This is not unusual and I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm having a whinge about this particular resort, it just seems to be the way it goes. Did they give you an opening date??
Personally I'd not be making a booking, and then perhaps missing out on somewhere else, until they'd actually opened.

I have not heard back from my second e-mail. They did not give me an exact opening date, just that they would be open by Feb 07. I agree, there is not way I would make a booking (especially for what they are charging) without the resort actually being open.

Do you have any other suggestions for good dive resorts with nice white sand beaches that would have good weather in Feb. I know the north is very rainy in Feb, but how is the south? Thanks

If I was looking at spending those $'s (unfortunately not at the moment!) I'd be choosing Yasawa Island Lodge. We visited there about 5 years ago and it was stunning. Another new resort which lokos nice - but it doesn't look to have a lot of sandy beaches - is Navutu Stars (www.navutustarsfiji.com) which looks quite nice.

the diving in the Yasawas is good - not fantastic. the best diving is in the north islands, off taveuni. I've just found this option for Yasawa diving. It sounds fabulous as you get to dive in a whole lot of different areas - http://www.cruiseinluxurydiveinparad...Itinerary.aspx
