you don't say where else you are going or how much time you have in Australia nor what you interests are so it is very hard to suggest anything for you without that information.

We have little time , 2 weeks only, and after a stop to Perth we will fly to Sydney for the New Year's Eve and then to Melbourne
After we would like to visit New Zealand.
We love the beaches, and I think that an alternative to Fraser Island could be Abel Tasman national Park or a trip to Cape Reinga.
What do you think ?
Thanks !
Fraser Island is in Queensland Australia and not NZ so the comparisons between the two places you mention and Fraser is not relevent.

Fraser Island is about 300 km north of Brisbane so it could be time consuming to get there. I think you can fly Brisbane to Maroochydore and then hire a car from to Hervey Bay and then take a ferry to Fraser Island. As the roads are all sand, you would need a 4WD to drive on the island, so best to take a tour from Hervey Bay or stay on the island for a few nights. The main things to see on the island are the rainforest, fresh water lakes and the dingos - the beaches are spectacular but not necessarily the safest for swimming.
If you are planning to visit the Bay of Islands in NZ, you can visit Cape Reinga on a day trip. Haven't been to Abel Tasman park, so can't help there.

You can fly into Maroochy Sunshine Coast airport, stay at Noosa and get a day trip up to Fraser Island for about a 12 hour day. You can probably fly into Hervey Bay ( the closest town) and get a day trip from there, or stay on the island - Kingfisher Bay Resort is good, and do tours from there. I personally think with only 2 weeks there are more things to do closer to Sydney or Perth - what about Rottnest island off Perth - it's unique! There are plenty of beaches in and around Sydney! Save Fraser for next time when you can do the Great Barrier Reef and more of Queensland where there are many great beaches including Fraser!
