How long to stay in Kangaroo Island
We are planning to visit Kangaroo Island on early November. My initial thought was 2nights, and about 2-1/2 days total. Is this about right, or too much? (This will be part of a 5-week trip, during which I'll spend 3 weeks in Canberra, on business, and then 8 more days in Australia -- Melbourne, Kangaroo Is., Adelaide, and a night or two in Sydney -- and a week on the N. Island of N.Z. We were in Australia last Sept./Oct. and spent time in Sydney, the greater Cairns area, Uluru and Alice Springs, and Tasmania. We're hoping to make a separate trip to the S. Island of N.Z. in the next few years.)
I'd also appreciate recommendations for lodging in K.I.
Thanks!

We stayed on Kangaroo Island and it is very much a nature experience. There is a lot of nature to see, with wonderful animals, such as sea lions, seals, kangaroos and koalas. We stayed three nights, camping, but there are many other accommodation options. It was a wonderful experience.

Judilie,
KI is very large - 90 miles (145 km) by 35 miles (55 km) and most visitors underestimate the size. It is about the size of Bali, Puerto Rica, or Long Island NY. It really depends on what you are into. Most of our guests (I am a tour operator) make a statement to the effect that "at last I feel like I am in Australia" red dirt roads, sheep and cattle farms, beautiful beaches, rugged coastline, Eucalyptus trees stretching off to the horizon, very few people and some amazing local produce with great wines. Oh yeah -and the wildlife! If this is what you are seeking then you will not find 2 1/2 days too much. Hope this helps.
